Revision as of 05:02, 20 June 2010

This page has been removed from search engines' indexes.

Instructions

If contributors have been shown to have a history of extensive copyright violation, it may be assumed without further evidence that all of their major contributions are copyright violations, and they may be removed indiscriminately in accordance with Wikipedia:Copyright violations. However, to avoid collateral damage, efforts should be made when possible to verify infringement before removal.

Text

  • Examine the article or the diffs linked below.
  • If the contributor has added creative content, either evaluate it carefully for copyright concerns or remove it.
  • If you remove text presumptively, place {{subst:CCI|name=Contributor name}} on the article's talk page.
  • If you specifically locate infringement and remove it (or revert to a previous clean version), place {{subst:cclean}} on the article's talk page. The url parameter may be optionally used to indicate source.
  • If there is insufficient creative content on the page for it to survive the removal of the text or it is impossible to extricate from subsequent improvements, replace it with {{subst:copyvio}}, linking to the investigation subpage in the url parameter.
  • After examining an article:
  • replace the diffs after the colon on the listing with indication of whether problem was found (add {{y}}) or not (add {{n}})
  • Follow with your username and the time to indicate to others that the article has been evaluated and appropriately addressed. This is automatically generated by four tildes (~~~~)
  • If a section is complete, consider collapsing it by placing {{collapse top}} and {{collapse bottom}} beneath the section header and after the final listing.

Images

  • Examine the images below. For free images:
    • Does the image look non-free? Is it likely the uploader is the copyright holder?
    • Is the image properly licensed and sourced? Be aware of images that say "this image is licensed under X" without specifying who created it.
    • Do a reverse image search using Tineye. Check the license of the source page. Compare the last modified time with the (Commons) upload time.
    • Do a Google image search for phrases that describe the image's contents.
    • See Wikipedia:Guide to image deletion#Addressing suspected copyright infringement on dealing with cases of possible image copyright infringement. There is no need to open a possibly unfree files listing. Administrators may delete images from multiple point infringers presumptively in accordance with Wikipedia:Copyright violations. Evaluators who are not administrators may section images into a "deletion requested" section for administrator attention.
  • For non-free images, determine whether each image meets our non-free content criteria.
    • Note that Commons does not accept non-free content.
  • Annotate the listing with the action taken, e.g. if the image was tagged no source write "no source"; if the fair use claim is deemed ok you can write "OK fair use".

Clerk note: I haven't been too rigorous in checking for duplicates. I also haven't deleted duplicates of the section above. MER-C 09:21, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BEGIN NUKE THESE IMAGES - all watermarked (see Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/2008 October 3 and Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2007 October 21/Images for similar deletions). MER-C 13:43, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Section 2

Commons upload log

Clerk note: "Arab League" is a poor search term on Commons, see Arab League. I am not sure whether any of his images have been transferred to Commons under a different name. Please check this. MER-C 09:27, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arab Atlas and other maps

I'd say his claims of authorship over the maps are just as believable as those over the photographs. MER-C 13:13, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Arab Atlas images are already sorted out for deletion, based on prior deletion requests. Most of these Maps are based on one map and generated likely with the same software.
Maybe some explanation from the uploader about the base maps represented in User:Arab League/Map (Noth Africa and Arab peninsula, Middle East, India, China, some variants of South America, Africa), the base maps copyright status, the software used for modification and the meaning of the Arab Atlas logo can resolve the problem already.
Although the base map might be public domain, there is of course the posibility to use PD maps from Wikimedia projects, but it is still required to attribute the base map and its author to provide evidence that the base map is in fact PD and not to declare the whole thing own work. In one deletion discussion, regretably the only response to all the copyright problems so far, the User claims the map his own creation. From File:Arab LeagueDiplomaticRelations.png it appears that he uses the Arab Atlas tag on his own works - however the base maps lacking source information, the world map used in the latter example is obviously not own work. Besides the photographs, already nominated for deletion on Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2009_November_21#Photographs_by_Arab_League, the maps are the second large package of uploads. The photographs are almost lost, I hope we can correct the maps and keep them with the uploaders help, explanation requested above. --Martin H. (talk) 23:30, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Arab League's claims in the picture. That said, I've retracted the deletion requests for now. MER-C 13:04, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've closed the PUI report on one of these maps for the time being since the copyright question is being handled here. I also have concerns about the base map used for all of the iterations. Shell babelfish 04:52, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Left again a comment on uploaders talkapge, 7 days, otherwise delete. --Martin H. (talk) 19:31, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
concerning Arab Atlas, i am preparing for printing an Atlas for the Arab world, and for the world in General, so i had most of these maps done at home as for the watermark, it is simply the Loog of the Atlas, and i have created the logo myself, im hoping to finish the Atlas by April this year, to be ready for publishing, it will be considered the first of its kind in Egypt, since the typical Atlases in Arabic are simply the political, and Physical Map of a continent, and Egypt, without going into details of certain regions... the Logo and name are strictly mine, and cannot be found anywhere on earth except on my Computer, and wikipedia, or sites that use Maps from Wikipedia...

Anyways, the watermark can be simply removed, if it causes so much of a hastle... all i did is simply upload Maps i created for the Atlas and uploaded them on Wikipedia...

i also sent this message to Skuder a week or so, so ill just copy paste it here "Hi, i'm not sure who to contact exactly about the copyright investigation, the thing is that most of the images if not all have been uploaded by me in my early days of contributing on Wikipedia, and sadly still not aware of the complex, copyright system of wikipedia, tho i HAVE removed alot of them from links i have done, i have yet don't know how to change a copyright, and how to remove an image... and you can make sure by checking my contributions, and you'll find that never in my history of contribution have i edited a copyright status further on, the Arab Atlas watermark is actually made by me, since i'm doing an Atlas on the Arab World, i have uploaded several of these maps to be used on Wikipedia, i CAN, re-upload them without the watermark... moreover i would be glad if i can help with the investigation...
