My name is pronounced as (Hindi: प्रतीक माल्या)(pra-TEE-kuh MA-lya). Currently, i am a student of Computer Science at BITS Pilani Goa Campus. For the period of January- June 2011, I will be interning at IMSc (:D).

My Contributions

I started off by watching over the pages of BITS Pilani and all its campuses, adding new articles, and checking whether new edits meet Wikipedia's quality standard. Recently, I have begun to improve articles on other Indian universities, and also some scientific articles where i have some expertise. As an editor of Wikipedia, my aim is to make sure that the pages on the numerous Indian Universities are not misused, and are used instead to portray a honest picture of them. Having much experience with the Hypocrisy prevalent in Indian culture, and especially the inexplicable fear of truth and of criticism widespread in (most of) Indian Academic culture, this has been the only way in which I can make a useful contribution in the little spare time that I do have. In particular, I am hoping that wikipedia articles on Indian Universities reach a level that prospective engineering/science students can use to get some idea of the nature of what they are getting into when choosing a University to spend 4 precious years of their life (as undergraduates).

Useful Tips

  • If you really want to know whether you have really learnt something, try writing a wiki article. It either helps straighten things out-or drive you completely nuts, both of which contribute to the process of learning.
  • If you study any of the mathematical sciences (usually math (duh), physics or CS ), you ought to learn abstract algebra (really!). It is the best place to get "easy" proofs to boost your confidence; the horrendous mathematics that you will see later in published papers (if you ever!) will seem like a piece of cake. Well...not really, but it will give you the confidence to make an attempt, at least.
