DonorsTrust is a donor advised fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides funding to a variety of conservative causes, political advocacy groups and think tanks. It was established with a stated goal of "supporting organizations that promote liberty". It has garnered international attention for contributions to climate change denial organizations.[1][2]

History

Donors Trust was launched in 1999. It was established as the sole donor-advised plan "dedicated to promoting a free society" and serving donors who share that purpose. Since its founding, DonorsTrust has received over $400 million and has granted out over $300 million. Those grants include more than 1000 charities. [3] According to the most recent report available, Donors Trust made over $29 million in grants in 2011. [4]

Donors Trust offers anonymity to wealthy donors who do not want to make their donations publicly.[5][1][6] The organization assures its conservative donors that their donated funds will never be used to support liberal causes.[1] It funds numerous projects, including the Franklin Center[7] It has also funded groups that support climate change denial.[8]
