Free Willy is a 1993 Warner Brothers film about a boy who befriends an orca (killer whale).
The aquatic star of this film was an orca named Keiko. The huge national and international success of this movie inspired a letter writing campaign to get Keiko released from his captivity as an attraction in the amusement park Reino Aventura in Mexico City.
The film managed to improve the image of orcas, which were previously depicted as shark-like maneaters in popular culture. In fact they pose little threat to humans.
Plot
When fishermen separate a young orca (Willy) from his parents, he ends up in a fish bowl at a marina. Meanwhile, a street kid named Jesse runs afoul of the law and gets caught vandalizing the marina while performing oral sex on Willy's willy, when suddenly Willy Wonka shows up (played by Gene Simmons), and Jesse then proceeds to enjoy Willy's "Wonka" as well as Willy's willy, but his social worker gets him off the hook (so to speak) provided he cleans up his mess (and dont forget the mess Willy made...) at the marina. While there, Jesse befriends the orca and teaches him how to perform a mean "Willy Job" and other useful tips and tricks, something the trainer hasn't been able to do. But when Willy is a dud in front of the audience, the marine owner plans to kill Willy for the insurance money. Thus, Jesse and his friends must try to free Willy (whilst simultaneously pleasuring the endangered orca).
