  • Comment: Verbiage such as "deeply influenced by Japan's fantastical futurism and New York City's gritty art-music scene" needs to be quoted as that is taken straight out of her profiles. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 19:33, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Mitsuko Alexandra Yabe (born December 14, 1991), known professionally as Lightchild (stylized as llghtchlld), is an American and Japanese Music Artist, Record Producer, Pop artist, Multi-instrumentalist, Composer.[1]

Career & Lifestyle

llghtchlld was born in New York City, NY, USA. Growing up, she was influenced simultaneously by both American and Japanese culture. Her music career began with the study of classical violin under the tutelage of Roberta Guaspari and Lynelle Smith of Opus 118 Harlem School of Strings. Her early achievements included performing for Quincy Jones, President Obama, with the NY Philharmonic, at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

After graduating from Pomona College, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in the arts and entertainment industry. Broadening her search, Yabe met a network post-producer at an alumni event who told her that a company was looking to fill an entry-level position in television post-production. She got the gig — transcribing interviews for producers on the reality crime series The First 48 (2004-present) for ITV Studios (formerly Granada Entertainment) — and eventually joined the Editors Guild as an edit room assistant, the equivalent to an apprentice on the West Coast. [2]

llghtchlld is deeply influenced by Japan's fantastical futurism and New York City's gritty art-music scene.[3] She describes her music as cinematic with an electronic/experimental edge, blending J-pop, synth rock and hints of funk.

llghtchlld has collaborated with film directors and composers on several soundtracks as a music editor, including Boots Riley's "Sorry To Bother You"[4] (2018), Radha Blank's "Forty-Year Old Version" (2020), and Lena Waithe's "Beauty" (2020) which are scheduled to release through Netflix. Her work with major studios includes, Warner Brothers New Line Cinema, Universal Studios, HBO and many of her independent films have featured in Sundance Festival, Toronto Film Festival, and American Black Film Festival. She is the founder of LIGHTCHILD STUDIOS, music & motion picture-focused creative studio developing her original projects in immersive art and animation.

Her first solo record, 01001, for which she wrote, composed, did vocals, and produced herself, is scheduled to release in 2021.[5] She is also currently working on a hybrid-documentary feature with filmmaker Edwin Martínez [6], called "Monster", which is scheduled to be released in 2021 as well.
