Actress Elizabeth Berridge, or Beth, was born May 2 1962 in Mamaroneck, New York. She was encouraged to pursue a performing career by Molly McCarthy, an acting coach who lived across the street, after seeing Elizabeth play Snoopy in the fifth grade. She graduated from Mamaroneck High School, the same high school where fellow actors Matt and Kevin Dillon, Michael O'Keefe, Dan Futterman, Jill Novick, Jennifer Bransford, and Bronson Picket attended. She studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

Elizabeth has strong roots in the theatre, having graced the stage in New York, Los Angeles, and London. In 1986, she received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in A Play for Wrestlers as well as for her role in Cruise Control, a part written specifically for her. In 1989, she was nominated for the San Diego Critics Award and won the Dramalogue Award for Best Lead Actress for Lulu at the La Jolla Playhouse in Southern California.

  • Once was Helen Hunt's roommate. According to an interview with Ms. Hunt, she first met her Mad About You co-star Paul Reiser at a dinner party hosted by Elizabeth, who also happened to be a friend of Reiser's wife, Paula.
  • Replaced actress Meg Tilly in Amadeus (1984), as Constanze Mozart.
  • Had long term relationship with actor David Newsom in the early 90's.
  • In 1996, during her summer hiatus from shooting The John Larroquette Show, Elizabeth headed to New York City and appeared in two plays. One of these plays was the adaptation Tartuffe, Born Again at the Circle in the Square, as part of the theatre's 45th anniversary celebration.

  • In 1998 Elizabeth, along with Jake Johannson, was set to participate in a reading of James Morrison's Being Frank, a play about "sexual dysfunction, incest, and child abuse" to benefit RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). The project was expected to be held at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood but was put on hold.
  • Elizabeth has been a host of the Eddie Awards, the "Academy Awards" of film and television editing.
  • Elizabeth's sister is Mary Berridge, a noted photographer who has taught at Princeton University and has been a recipient of a Guggenheim Prize and many other awards.
