The officials of the Central University of Nicaragua may or may not be aware of it, but ASIC is not a proper educational accreditor. They have no authority to institutionally accredit schools, so when they're used for that purpose it's actually looked at as a negative by those familiar with institutional accreditation systems. This may be a reason why UCN is blacklisted by World Education Services (WES), and that's a big detriment to students who will need foreign credential evaluations. Being legally established with the CNU is more than adequate enough. If having a non-Nicaraguan accreditor is important, then it would make more sense for UCN to seek out a proper accreditor in the United States like the DEAC or one of the 6 U.S. regional accreditors. - EduMan

Accreditation

The officials of the Central University of Nicaragua may or may not be aware of it, but ASIC is not a proper educational accreditor. They have no authority to institutionally accredit schools, so when they're used for that purpose it's actually looked at as a negative by those familiar with institutional accreditation systems. This may be a reason why UCN is blacklisted by World Education Services (WES), and that's a big detriment to students who will need foreign credential evaluations. Being legally established with the CNU is more than adequate enough. If having a non-Nicaraguan accreditor is important, then it would make more sense from a public image standpoint for UCN to seek out a proper reputable accreditor in the United States like the DEAC or one of the 6 U.S. regional accreditors. - EduMan
