Hurricane Sam is a very powerful Category 4 hurricane that is expected to affect no land areas. The eighteenth tropical cyclone, seventh hurricane, and fourth major hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, Sam emerged from a tropical wave that formed off the coast of Africa on September 19,
Meteorological History
On 19 September 2021, the NHC began monitoring a tropical wave over Africa. The wave rapidly intensified. On 23 September 2021, the wave became a tropical storm and was given the name Sam. Sam intensified into a hurricane on 24 September 2021. The next day, Sam upgraded into a category 2, Later that day Sam upgraded to a category 3 making it the 4th major hurricane of the season. Later that day Sam again upgraded to a category 4. On 26 September 2021, Sam reached peak intensity at 155 mph as a high end category 4 and knocked Ida off as the Strongest Storm in the season.
Current Information
Sam currently is a category 4 with the highest wind gust of 165 mph and in 1 minute mean Sam have 140 mph winds and the pressure is 943 MBAR (27.85inHg).
