As a principal at HOK, Dowdell launched the HOK IMPACT program and co-chairs the Diversity Advisory across all of HOK's global offices.[7]

In her two year term as president of NOMA, Dowdell focuses her attention on increasing access and exposure of architecture to young students, thereby increasing equity and diversity in the profession.[7] She launched the Diversity 2030 Challenge as part of the effort, a challenge whose goal is to more than double the number of Black licensed architects in the profession.[7]
