The bowling team won back-to-back State Championships in 2005 and 2006. They lost in 2007 to the eventual State Champion Hixson.

The bowling team is currently the two-time defending State Champions for 2005 and 2006. They set and broke their own combined points record in both. They currently hold the state record with over 4000 points total.

Smyrna High School is a secondary school located in Smyrna, Tennessee, U.S.A.


History

Smyrna High was founded in 1911 and split in 1988 into the current LaVergne and Smyrna High Schools. The current Smyrna Middle School was the original home of Smyrna High.

Football Team

LaVergne Rivalry

Since the schools split, LaVergne and Smyrna have held an intense athletic rivalry with LaVergne. Such rivalry appears when the opposing schools vandalize each other's football fields. However, Smyrna's football team has only lost one football game to the LaVergne football team, and the Bulldogs also went on to win state.

Riverdale Rivalry

Riverdale High's football team and Smyrna's football team have held a rivalry for 18 years. Riverdale beat Smyrna in their first 17 meetings; however, Smyrna finally beat the Warriors for the first time in the Class 5A state championship quarterfinals in 2006.

The Smyrna High Swim Team is currently the four-time defending County Champions (2004, 2005, 2006,and 2007.) During the most recent championship, meet records were set by Smyrna Swimmers in the Men's 200 yard medley relay at 1:47.44 (Kevin Bailey, Cameron Grey, Ryan Simpson, and Kailan Dady) and the Men's 100 yard breastroke at 1:03.69 by Cameron Grey. On the Women's side Kirsten Smithson won the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.28, Erica Dahlgren won the 100 Fly and the 500 Free with times of 1:05.47 and 5:47.28 respectively, Bailey Sartain won the 100 Free with a time of 58.66, and the girls took first in all three relays. The combined point difference was a stiffling 266 points. The Women bested Siegel by 146 points and the Men rounded out the Siegel sweep with a lead of 120 points. At the end of the day, the Bulldogs had set two meet records and a school record (200 medley relay), had swept the Women's 100 Fly taking first through fourth places, and had registered its fourth straight county championship.

Regional Meet Results

Congratulations!!! to the swim team for setting 5 school records in the recent regional swim meet. Individual records were set in the 200 and 500 Free's by Cameron Grey with times of 1:57.98 and 5:14.63, and by Ryan Simpson in the 100 Fly clocking in at 57.89. Relay records were set in the Men's 200 Free Relay (Kailan Dady, Michael Alexander, Ryan Simpson, and Cameron Grey) with a time of 1:35.01 and the Women's 400 Free Relay (Kirsten Smithson, Erica Dahlgren, Rachel Gifford, and Bailey Sartain) at 4:00.59. State Qualifiers were: Ryan Simpson in the 100 Back, Blake Gonyea in the 100 Fly, Kailan Dady in the 200 Free, and Spencer Ratliff in the 100 Fly. State Meet

This years state meet will be held at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville on February 23-24. A link to the psyche sheet is posted below. Wrestling Team

During the 2006-2007 wrestling season, Smyrna got a new coach in Chris Garner. He replaced former head coach, Mark Gonyea, who is widely considered to be the best wrestling coach in Smyrna High history. Under him, Smyrna sent 34 wrestlers to state, won the Region V championship and Region Runner-Up. During his tenure, Smyrna also captured the school's first state medal along with 4 others. Coach Gonyea also coached a wrestler to the state finals. James Turner. Chris Sholly and Spencer Sommers all have claimed State Medals. Chris Garner coached Smyrna Middle for 3 years. The wrestling team practices are around 3:35pm to 7:00pm Monday through Friday. These practices are closed.
