Tagged for comments like:

"He attempts to tell the reader "
  "an unimpressively characterized man "

which really give me the impression that the author didn't like the book. 202.81.18.30 (talk) 02:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POV

I think that the article writer was just unskilled, I fixed the offending phrase and made a few other changes. 24.18.249.218 (talk) 22:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews?

Are user reviews from Amazon.com really suitable for Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4RM0 (talkcontribs) 09:17, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was the one who wrote the 'reviews' section. It seemed to me that a citation of an Amazon rating would have been analogous to the 'Rottentomatoes.com' rating that are often quoted for films. I appreciate that Amazon itself is a seller and not a reviewing forum, but I don't know of anything equivalent to Rottentomatoes for books. Any ideas? 86.156.0.244 (talk) 17:40, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance of Gender Roles comment

The comment at the end about the book and movie having a female doctor doesn't seem to be relevant, unless it's notable for being an early or good portrayal of a woman in a traditionally male role. I added the reference to the movie as the previous comment was unclear. I'm just not sure if the comment is even useful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.165.152.167 (talk) 14:00, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care for this comment about a particular character being female in both the book and movie either, it just seems sexist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pegminer (talkcontribs) 18:34, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FIrst account of a virus?

Our article on Self replicating machines claimed that this book contains the first ever description of a computer virus - predating the Internet. However When HARLIE Was One was published in the same year and also describes a computer virus. Which of these was published first? Is it merely coincidence that both authors came up with the identical (and rather novel) concept? SteveBaker (talk) 16:13, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(Answering my own question): I got in touch with the author of When HARLIE Was One and he confirms that the part of the story containing the concept of a computer virus was first published as a short story in Galaxy magazine in 1969. So Crighton was not the first to think of that. SteveBaker (talk) 03:38, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
