Burton replied that he should complete the first draft before viewing the film. This suggests that the 2005 version will not be a remake of the 1971 film; it will be a fresh adaptation of the book. Furthermore, August states that he was surprised by the large differences between the 1971 film and the book, which implies that the upcoming version may be more accurate with respect to the novel than was the first film adaptation.
