Dewan Salahuddin was the second child among six siblings of their father late Dewan Md. Idris (died: 10-02-1990 and mother late Saleha Idris. His father late Dewan Md. Idris discharged his duties sincerely as elected chairman for 45 years (1943-1988) and later in 1979 he was elected as member of parliament (BNP). In 1974, Dewan Md. Salahuddin enrolled in Momenshahi Cadet College in class seven (now known as Mirzapur Cadet College). He completed his SSC and HSC from the same institute in 1978 and 1980 respectively. He got admitted in Mymensingh Medical College in 1981 and successfully completed his MBBS in 1987 and later did his one-year internship from the same medical college.

He participated in inter medical college football competition as a regular football team member since his third year in medical college. While he was studying in medical college, he had regularly participated in the first division football league of Brothers Union for several years. In 1991, Dr Dewan Md. Salahuddinn passed 10th BCS exam and joined Itna Health Complex under Kishoreganj district as Medical Officer. Later he was transferred to Savar Upazilla Health Complex in 1993. In 2021-2022 took the responsibility of 1st Vice District Governor and 2022-2023 he was 2nd vice district governor. He was sent to jail twice while surrendering to lower court as per his given date. Again, on 25 October 2015, he was arrested from his residence in framing false allegation. After 10 days of remand, he was sent to jail later he released after granted bail. He had to spend a total of 242 days in prison in three times (18 days in 2012, 108 days in 2013, 116 days in 2015-2016)
