Fatmir Mehmet Begu or Fatmir Begu-Abdullah (24 May 1966 – 17 December 2015), was an Albanian guerrilla fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) who participated as a volunteer in the Kosovo War to fight against Milosevic's Serbian regime.[1][2][3][4]

Biography

He was detained by American soldiers from the multinational Forces in Kosovo (KFOR) last night, as reported by the Kosovo press. The KFOR spokesman, Garry Bannister Green, confirmed the detainment of an individual deemed a threat to order and security, without disclosing the name of the detainee.

Mehmeti, who previously served as the commander of the Kosovo Albanian guerrilla in the Karadak region of eastern Kosovo, currently holds the position of vice president in the War Veterans Association. Following his arrest, he was transferred to the prison located at the US KFOR base in Urosevac, situated in the southern part of the province.

While KFOR has not officially disclosed the reason behind Mehmeti's arrest, the War Veterans Association has expressed its protest against the detainment of their vice president. Notably, there are currently 18 former Kosovo Albanian guerrillas in detention, including Fatmir Limaj, one of the main commanders facing accusations of war crimes. Limaj, along with two others, is currently being tried by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in La Is.

Additionally, in Kosovo, the trial against Rustem Mustafa, also known as "Remi," and three other officers from the former Kosovar Albanian guerrilla accused of war crimes against civilians of their ethnicity is ongoing.[5]
