"Dark Matter" is a song by American rock band Pearl Jam, first released on February 13, 2024 as the lead single and title-track in promotion of the bands twelfth studio album Dark Matter.

The track, along with the rest of the album, was produced by Andrew Watt who has also recently worked with Ozzy Osbourne, the Rolling Stones, and Iggy Pop.[1]

Reception

In a review by Rob Janicke of Medium, they praised the track for for its energy and residence from there earlier, more heavy work. They specifically highlighted the lead guitar riff, describing it as "heavy" and "infectious", they also stated that while most new tracks take a while to "hit" them, this track "hit me hard and to my ears, it has everything a great Pearl Jam rocker should have".[2] Another positive review by Steve Spaleta of Space stated that the track is a "hard rocker", also noting the lyrics as speaking their mind through their music, being "a staple of the grunge rock pioneers".[3]

"Dark Matter" was listed as Consequence of Sound's song of the week upon release, stating that the track proves "proves, the group haven’t lost anything in the intervening four years — in fact, they’re learning new tricks". Highlights from them included Matt Cameron's "thunderous drums" that would do "Phil Collins proud".[4]
