Honour First Nations, Métis, and Inuit stories, histories, and peoples during National Indigenous History Month and join us in an event to make the internet more inclusive and equitable by adding content to Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. The focus of this event will be on Mi'kma'ki and Mi’kmaq peoples.

We invite you to celebrate with us. Learn to edit and help us improve coverage of Indigenous histories!

No experience is necessary. Drop-in and visit with us.

Snacks will be offered throughout the event.

11 am to 4 pm June 20th, 2024.

Where

Ko’jua Okuom room, Dalhousie University (located in the Downie Wenjack Legacy Space on the first floor of the Killam Library).

Who

This event is open to anyone who would like to help grow the sum of fair, dignified, and gender-inclusive Indigenous histories on Wikipedia and Wikidata. All levels of skill are welcome.

What you will need

Please bring a laptop that can connect to the internet if you have one. A limited supply of laptops will be available for those without a laptop.

You will need a Wikimedia account in advance of the event if you don't yet have one. Go to Wikipedia.org or Wikidata.org and click on “Create account” in the top right corner, then fill out the short form to create an account.

After creating your account you can join the Event Dashboard at National Indigenous History Month Edit-a-Thon [1]

Training sessions

Optional training will be offered during the event. Wikipedia instruction will be offered between 11 am and 12 noon, while Wikidata instruction will be offered between 2 pm and 3 pm. You are welcome to drop-in at any time.
