The '''National Front for the Defence of the Constitution''' (''Front national pour le défense de la Constitution'', '''FNDC''') is a Guinean opposition coalition that has called for the restoration of democratic rule in Guinea following a military coup in September 2021.

On 22 June 2024, Tribrata TV published an article by Pasaribu alleging that an illegal online gambling business based close to the barracks of the Army 125th battalion in Kabanjahe was owned by a corporal in the Indonesian Army.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web |date=19 July 2024 |title=Indonesia: Investigate Killing of Journalist and His Family |url=https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/07/19/indonesia-investigate-killing-journalist-and-his-family |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240720091910/https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/07/19/indonesia-investigate-killing-journalist-and-his-family |archive-date=20 July 2024 |access-date=20 July 2024 |website=[[Human Rights Watch]] |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |last= |date=22 June 2024 |title=Lokasi Perjudian di Jalan Kapten Bom Ginting Ternyata Milik Oknum TNI Berpangkat Koptu Anggota Batalyon 125 Sim'bisa |trans-title=The Gambling Location on Captain Bom Ginting Street Turns Out to Belong to an Army Officer with the Rank of Corporal, Member of the 125th Battalion |url=https://tribrata.tv/06/22/hukum/115408/ |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240720070806/https://tribrata.tv/06/22/hukum/115408/ |archive-date=20 July 2024 |access-date=20 July 2024 |website=Tribrata TV |language=id}}</ref>

Rico Sempurna Pasaribu (c. 1977 - 27 June 2024) was an Indonesian journalist who worked for the Medan-based Tribrata TV.

On 22 June 2024, Tribrata TV published an article by Pasaribu alleging that an illegal online gambling business based close to the barracks of the Army 125th battalion in Kabanjahe was owned by a corporal in the Indonesian Army.[1][2]

Following the publication of the report, the Journalist Safety Committee reported that the soldier had threatened Pasaribu and asked Tribrata TV's chief editor, Edrin Adriansyah, to take down the report. Pasaribu stayed away from his home for several days following the threat.[1][3]

On 26 June 2024, protests were held outside the 125th battalion headquarters demanding that the gambling business be stopped. Pasaribu came out of hiding to report on the protests before returning to his home in Kabanjahe.[1][4]

On 27 June 2024, the bodies of Pasaribu, his wife, daughter, and grandson, were found in their home in Kabanjahe, North Sumatra.[1]

Pasaribu's surviving daughter Eva Meliani Pasaribu, whose son died in the fire, led a public campaign for justice for her family.[1][5]

Human Rights Watch called on the Indonesian police to complete a "credible and timebound" investigation to identify anyone involved in the attack.[1]

The Alliance of Independent Journalist raised concerns that a cover up would occur in the investigation due to alleged military involvement.[1][6]

A spokesperson for the Indonesian Army stated that authorities had questioned the soldier and found he was not involved in gambling.[1]

North Sumatra police stated they arrested three suspects and had interviewed 28 witnesses. One of the suspects, Bebas Ginting, was the former head of the Angkatan Muda Pembaharuan Indonesian, a youth organisation linked to the Golkar Party, which had official ties to the Indonesian military during the Soeharto regime.[1][6][7]

Human Rights Watch drew similarities to Pasaribu's death and those of journalists including Fuad Muhammad Syafruddin in 1996 after reporting on corruption in Bantul regency, and Sander Theones in 1999, by members of Battalion 745 in Dili.[1]
