"Take Control"
Song

"Take Control" is the first single from Amerie's 2007 album Because I Love It. The song features Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo, who wrote and produced it. The music video, which contains liberal references to the 1960s cult film Blowup, was shot in late October 2006 and premiered on the internet on December 3. The music video has also garnished over 305 thousand views on Youtube. The single debuted at number seventy-two on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and peaked at number sixty-six. It was released to television in the United States on January 15, 2007 and was selected as MTV's Jam of the Week.

In the UK the song debuted on the B-list section of Radio 1's playlist and was also Scott Mills' "Record of the Week" from March 26 To April 1, before moving up to the A-list. "Take Control" reached a peak of number 2 on the UK's iTunes Top 100, on Thursday 3rd May.

Critical response

Many critics have given "Take Control" positive reviews; Rolling Stone, for example, placed "Take Control" on its top 100 songs of the year list at number ninety-eight. Another popular magazine, Entertainment Weekly, stated "Take Control may be an ode to submission, but it hardly holds back." The music download service Rhapsody also gave a positive review to the song, writing "she demands someone "take control of me" in some of her most assertive vocals to date." Turntablelab.com complimented the song for its use of a sampled Tom Zé guitar riff.

Remixes

At the end of March 2007, a remix of "Take Control" by DJ Camille Starr, and featuring British-Asian vocalist S-Endz, began to circulate on the internet. It is a bhangra-fused club remix of the song.
