Aeryn found out at the end of the previous episode that John had been using the drug laka (derived from a creature on the planet Arnessk) so he would not care about Aeryn. As this episode begins, Aeryn is furious at him as a result. The crew of Moya is arrayed to meet some traders who have maps to Tormented Space that they need. They also offer to sell the crew a young woman who they have been using to be their sexual slave. Chiana freaks out since she was so recently raped, and demands the crew buy her, and they do. |

But shortly after the arrival of the enigmatic young woman, Talika, Moya's crew all start acting strangely: John acts goofy and happy-go-lucky, ignoring reality in favor of what he wants to be true; Aeryn acts cold and angry, the perfect Peacekeeper. John tries to convince Aeryn to forgive him the laka usage, but Aeryn is cold and menacing, without any interest in John, though John keeps insisting she loves him. Chiana acts very sexual, coming on to Talika, Aeryn, and John, but John refuses, with Scorpius overhearing John tell Chiana how much he loves Aeryn. Meanwhile, D'Argo is very angry, Rygel is very greedy, and Scorpius's Scarran half begins to take over, to his shame. Then, the crew is attacked one by one--it turns out Talika is a spider-like creature that can disguise itself as a woman. It enhances the strongest traits in a person, then feeds on them. As it feeds on each crew member, they lose these strongest traits, meaning that John becomes despairing; D'Argo becomes weak and unaggressive; Aeryn becomes afraid and unfocused; Rygel becomes unconcerned about money; and Chiana loses her sexual mojo. They now must try to find a way to get their lost traits back, which are being stored by Talika in energy orbs somewhere on Moya. John expresses regret that he thought he and Aeryn might have eventually solved their differences, but now they never will because they're all going to die. However, they do manage to defeat Talika and all end up eating spider soup made by Noranti. All of their weaknesses laid bare, Aeryn finally confronts John and he tells her he's been taking the laka because Aeryn is his one weakness--the key to getting wormhole knowledge from him, and Scorpius will use her and the baby against him if he were to find out; he's been using the coms to spy on them. Their differences ''finally'' resolved, John and Aeryn steal a momentary kiss. |
