"For Good"
Song

"For Good" is a song from the musical Wicked. It is sung as a duet between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda, as a farewell to each other.

Context

The song is performed towards the end of the musical, in it the two are singing farwell to one another. Just prior the song, Elphaba gives Glinda the Grimmerie and tells her that it's up to her to continue Elphaba's cause. After this song Elphaba leaves and is supposedly melted by Dorothy.

The song is reprised as part of the show's finale.

Lyrics

The song's lyrics concern how both Elphaba and Glinda have been changed by their friendship. Elphaba also asks Glinda to forgive her for anything she might have done wrong, to which Glinda replies that there is blame to share, but it doesn't matter anymore.

Composition

The song begins in C Major, and then modulates to Eb Major, after this it returns to C Major until it ends. The meter for the majorty of the piece is 4/4, but contains a few bars in a 2/4 meter. The performance indication is "Tenderly, poco rubato", and after the first modulation "Più mosso".
