`Alī (Arabic: علي)is a male Theophoric Arabic name, derived from the Arabic root `-L-Y which means "high". The first person to be given this name was Ali ibn Abu Talib, the Islamic leader and cousin with Muhammad. His name is said to be derived from al-`Alī (the [most] high), one of the 99 names of God. Some people say "Ya Ali Medet" - meaning O Ali please help!
