READ BEFORE TYPING!

I usually, as I said on my userpage, respond quickly to questions and comments. However, my computer will occasionaly slow to a crawl, so if I don't respond right away, wait five minutes. Crowstar 21:44, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya!

Thanks for the smile, it made my day. I'm gonna smile back!!

A couple of things...

Hi, thanks for the smile! I haven't been on much since I have to take a PhysEd and Health class over the summer but a few things:

  • If you want to show 4 tildes like this:~~~~, use the following code (not in the edit box but in the page view):

<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>

  • List of Warriors characters has been denied semi-protection a while ago, because "that would require a paradigm shift". In other words, unless the article is being vandalized, admins may not protect a page to prevent vandalism, they can only do so when it is being vandalized.
    • In Addition to the above, good faith edits are never vandalism. This means anything that sounds reasonable that a new, uninformed person might
    • The best we can do is to inform users about what they are doing with a personal message or a preset template
  • Keep up the good work, and Happy Editing!

P.S. - Sorry if this sounds like a lecture/warning, but sometimes my posts just sound like that. Also, if someone asks about semi-protecting List of Warriors characters, you might want to tell them what I put here since I won't be editing much. Pokémanics anonymous

If you are interested in Pokémon articles, you may like to join WikiProject Pokémon, a group of editors who work together to improve Pokémon articles. You can help with our current collaborations and find out more information on editing articles, as well as discuss Pokémon-related information. We hope to see you there! Trs Rockin

I've always thought Team Rocket was better than the twerps. My mom says I'm getting too old to watch Pokemon and collect the cards, but I still love it! Also, the cosplay rocks! Mandy Nader is really good at that. Spottedstripe 11:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Hello, Crowstar! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia!

In case you do no longer wish to be adopted, let me know. Cheers!

Hi again and welcome to the Adopt-a-User program! For starters, just replace the {{adoptoffer|Pvd21}} template I recently put with this one {{adoptee|Pvd21}}. This will signify that you are my adoptee. Now take some time and think about the areas you would like to contribute on wikipedia, whether those would be in certain projects, articles you find interesting etc. and I will be more than happy to teach you it's basics aspcects and help you familiarize with it. If you are yet unsure, I can propose tasks for you to do as to begin with, just let me know your interests and I shall guide you through. In addition, feel free to ask me any question/enquiry, anything at all. Pvd21 12:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nominating for Deletion

When you have to deal with articles that are obvious nonsence, not encyclopedic or match any of the criterias for deletion mentioned in Deletion Policy, you can put a speedy deletion tag on the top of the articles. For example, in case you came across an article with nonsense you should put {{Db-nonsense}} and it will catch administrators attention who will eventually decide to keep it or not. Just be carefull of which temlpate you choose! For the list of available templates check this section.

Furthermore, if you feel an article has to be deleted for a reason other than the above you can put {{subst:prod|reason}}, give your reason and wait for the article to be improved or deleted.

Let me know if you experience any difficulties or have any more questions. Pvd21 21:07, 27 June 2007 (UTC) subst:smile[reply]

Hi Crowstar =

i just came here to say hi an um one question i read the above comment and what wikiclan please post your answer on my talkpage

Your Contributions

According to your contributions it seems that you make a great effort in fighting vandalism. I do not know if you are using a wikipedia tool for such a job or just patrol the recent changes through your browser, but in case you do not I would recommend, as your adopter, you apply for one of these to help you out patroling and reverting more afficiently. I myself have applied for VandalProof and I am looking forward to the new experience of the so called fight against vandalism. So think of it and in case you have any questions you are welcome to discuss them with me.

Furthermore, to make things clear and avoid any misunderstandings you are not oblidged to do so just because I recommended it. It is ofcourse optional.

Userbox Creation

So you want to create a userbox. It requires some basic knowledge of HTML but I am not going to stick to it right now.

A userbox is essentially a subpage of a user who created it. You can take mine as a reference that I created for you in my subpage. I added the following simplified code to the page:

<div style="float: left; border: solid #ffb466 1px; margin: 1px;"> {| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; color: #000000; background: #ffe496;" | style="width: 45px; height: 45px; background: #000000; text-align: center;" |[[Image:Crystal kthememgr.svg|40px]] | style="font-size: 8pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em;" | This is a test userbox designed as a template for [[User:Crowstar|Crowstar]]. |} </div>

Which results to this

This is a test userbox designed as a template for Crowstar.

For starters, you can copy it and change the following values as you wish (see HTML colors):

  • #ffb466 userbox border color
  • #ffe496 right box background color
  • #000000 left box color
  • [[Image:]] Image
  • Text in bold Text of your choice
  • #000000 Text color

When you are satisfied with your userbox, and after you have saved it, you and anyone else can use it by typing for example: {{User:Crowstar/YourUserbox}}. The {{ }} are useful when you want a page to load into another page, and in our case the page with your userbox to be loaded into another without having to create it again.

Well, thats it! Hope I did not confuse you because it is hard to explain such stuff over the internet especially when you try to simplify them. If you have any problems with it or want to change other parts of the code don't hesitate to ask me. Happy editing! Pvd21 17:15, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning Vandals

Hi Crowstar, I have noticed you reverting vandalism more frequently recently, which is good. However, I have noticed that you do not place a message on the vandal's talk page to warn them. They generally look like this:

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although we invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Some Random Article, was not constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.

and this:

This is your last warning. The next time you delete or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia, as you did to Some Random Article, you will be blocked from editing.

What you do is you add them to the talk page of vandals and those edits that are not useful but in good faith like this:revert here, warning here.

A basic list of them are:

  • You can find more at WP:WARN.
  • Also please read these before you put them on a page

By the way, you start with level 1 or 2 in most cases (use common sense), unless that user already has recent warnings on their talk page, then you escalate to the next level. If a user has a recent uw-4 on their page, like uw-delete-4, then you may report them to the administrators at WP:AIV. More information might be at WP:CVU, and WP:VAND. Remember, if you can be reasonably sure that an edit was in good faith, then it is not vandalism. Oh, and one more thing I forgot, always substitute the messages by putting a subst: after the opening brackets like this: {{subst:uw-vandalism3|Article}}. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. SmileToday☺(talk to me , My edits) 20:19, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Music

Why the anti-music userbox? Do you dislike ragtime, folk music or some other music? Posting an anti-something userbox on Wikipedia diminishes your credibility in your editing or it certainly doesn't show WP:Neutral_point_of_view. Marycontrary 23:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Signature's color

Hi there Crowstar. About your signature, you need to go to your user preferences and find your empty signature imput box. After you've managed, copy-paste this line of code:

[[User:Crowstar|<span style="color:black">Crowstar</span>]]

After that make sure you have checked "Raw signature" option underneath and save. You're done! As I always say, for any further modifications to the code just give me a call. Pvd21 06:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
