Jodi Leyanne McKay (Born 16 August 1969 at Gloucester, New South Wales) is an Australian politician and television presenter. As of April 2007, McKay represents the Electoral district of Newcastle for the Australian Labor Party in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly.[1]

McKay was formerly a newsreader for NBN Television in Newcastle.

McKay, it is claimed, has been a socialite in Newcastle for the past couple of years. During her maiden speech to Parliment Jodi McKay's voice broke up.

Her Parliament website lists her background as: "As a journalist, Ms McKay worked in television, radio and print media in Northern NSW before entering the private sector in corporate communications and marketing. Her honorary Board positions, before entering parliament, including Director- Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), Director- TUNRA Limited, and Director-Hunter Manufacturers' Association."

Ms McKay's closest rival during the recent election was John Tate,[1] a man who has not been conspicous in his absence during the recent disasters that faced the local area. Lord Mayor John Tate was everywhere, whilst Jodi has only had one ABC radio interview.

The pre-selection was left to the ALP's state executive, who dumped Bryce Gaudry, [2]the member of 11years for the former news reader.

Jodi McKay's most notable news-reader moment, according to her maiden address to Parliament, was being stuck under a desk during the Newcastle Earth Quake. She also delivered the news of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York in 2001.
