Please do not block people for "vandalism" where they had put the truth.
I mistakenly believe that this Mike Reid died last week, and added a comment today to state that he was still alive. Please can you confirm why this is vandalism?

July 2007

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Mike Read, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. - Zeibura (Talk) 19:09, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Mike Read's death was announced on the BBC website!

Ah, just found the story! That wasn't Mike Read, that was Mike Reid. Info seems to have been added to the article. - Zeibura (Talk) 21:09, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism (insertion of nonsense)

This was not an innocent action as there is consistency of edits of this IP address with the user Rolf Mayo. This is effectively a form of sockpuppetry.

This IP address is responsible for various vandalising edits to the Mike Read article, which have a consistency of agenda including this. It is clear from other edits by this IP address that these users are either one and the same or linked.

Whilst all these edits may have a noble motivation, they are not welcome, and constitute more an attack on wikipedia, rather than their intended target.

Please stop making work for editors and wikipedians who give their time voluntarily. You may also consider channelling your creativity into more worthwhile forms of protest.

Here is the vandalism template:

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism and are immediately reverted. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you.
