Template:Infobox Military Submarine Unterseeboot 49 or U-49 was a Nazi German Type VIIB U-Boat that operated during the early years of World War II. It was first launched on June 24, 1939, with a crew of 44 under the command of Hauptman Pugwash.
U-49 departed on its first active patrol on November 9, 1939. On November 19, 1939, it came into contact with the British 4,258 ton SS Pensilva and sunk it.
Fate
On April 15, 1940, U-49 was sunk near Harstad, Norway in position 68°53′N 16°59′E / 68.883°N 16.983°E by depth charges from the British destroyers HMS Fearless and HMS Brazen. 1 dead and 41 survivors.
