Recently, since Hannah found friendship in [[Melissa]], Hannah and Melissa have been mean to Gilly e.g. arguing over his friendship with the family, the fact he is at their home all the time. Gilly even got hit by her. After having a talk, they agreed to be friends. Only later to fall out after Gilly accused Hannah of taking drugs as she was acting extremely out of character. With Gilly, Rhys and Suzanne all growing suspicious, Hannah followed through with her threat and told her mum and Rhys that Gilly tried to touch her. Gilly tried to make Hannah tell the truth, but she refused to take back the lie. Rhys also believed Hannah, going so far as to punch Gilly. Upset, Gilly left the Ashworth house. Gilbert "Gilly" Roach is a fictional character on the long-running British Channel 4 television soap opera Hollyoaks.
He is played by actor Anthony Quinlan.
Description
Rhys Ashworth's best friend from school and right hand man, Gilly is prone to getting himself into endless predicaments and scrapes. Gilly can come off as a bit clueless at times, but he usually does the right thing. His innocent charm and naive ebullience often allows him to get away with little of the blame.
Character history
Like the Ashworth's Gilly was originally from Manchester but when they moved to Hollyoaks he decided to move in with them. He is a huge supporter of Manchester City much to the annoyance of Rhys who supports Manchester United. Gilly does temp jobs to pay for his stay with the Ashworths. Whenever someone tells Gilly that he needs to do something with his life, he also tells them that he's going traveling around the world, despite not actually doing anything to get the money for his travels because of his reluctance to get a proper job because it would interfere with his plans.
After sneaking into a Halloween party at HCC, Gilly snogged Jessica Harris and assumed the role of her wannabe boyfriend. This led to him pretending to be a philosophy student just to get close to her and found a rival in Mark, Jessica's real boyfriend. The two battled for affections but things ended when Jessica couldn't decide between them. When Neville bought Drive N' Buy Gilly asked to if he could work there along with Rhy's ex-girlfriend Sarah Barnes. He then started to like Sarah and they went on a couple of dates but that didn't work out either after he blurted out that Rhys slept with Sarah's mum in front of a room full of people.
Relationship with the Ashworth family
Gilly has a close relationship with the Ashworth family and might even consider them his own family. When Suzanne mistook Rhys' escort service card as being Neville's, Gilly seemed distraught that Suzanne would think Neville might be having an affair. When Neville's shop was being robbed he was almost beaten up by the robber. At Hannah's 18th birthday party he gave her an expensive necklace which was a better gift than Hannah's then boyfriend, John-Paul McQueen. After Josh was dumped by his girlfriend Amy Barnes, Gilly (along with Rhys) gave him advice on how to handle his heartbreak. Gilly suggesting Josh write his feelings into a song, this gave Josh the idea of winning back Amy by writing her a love song.
He recently supported surrogate brother Josh after he hit Mike Barnes over the head with a brick in self-defence, almost killing him and landing him in hospital.
Gilly chose to spend Christmas with the Ashworth's rather than with his own mum. After Josh was arrested Gilly and Rhys provided him with an alibi, saying they spent the night playing computer games.
