Plasmodium achiotense is a parasite of the genus Plasmodium subgenus Vinckeia.

Like all Plasmodium species P. sandoshami has both vertebrate and insect hosts. The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are mammals.

Description

The parasite was first described by Dunn et al in 1963. [1]

This species was named after Dr. A. A. Sandosham, Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine in Singapore, University of Malaya

Geographical occurrence

This species is found in Malaya.

Clinical features and host pathology

The only known host is the Sunda Flying Lemur (Galeopterus variegatus).
