William Beaumont Hospital is a regional medical system in the greater Detroit, Michigan area. It first opened with a 238 bed hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1955. The hospital system is named after William Beaumont, a medical doctor at an army post on Mackinac Island, Michigan[1].

Locations

The largest hospital is located at 3601 W Thirteen Mile Road in Royal Oak, Michigan near Woodward Avenue and houses 1,061 inpatient beds. The facility also includes a cancer, renal, vascular, and heart center as well as a research institute and a medical building with private practices and other Beaumont services[2]. This hospital is currently the largest inpatient hospital in the country[3].

The 296 bed campus of the Troy hospital is located at 44201 Dequindre Road in Troy, Michigan. This offers inpatient and outpatient services as well as private practices[4].

In addition to this, the Beaumont system also has 6 medical centers[5], four nursing facilities[6], and many additional services at five other locations[7].

Teaching Hospital

Beaumont serves as a teaching hospital for both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University medical schools[8], Wayne State's school of nursing[9], and Oakland University[10].

The hospital also offers residency and fellowship programs for physicians[11], and research opportunities through the Research Center[12].

In addition to this, Clinical Pastoral Education is offered through Beaumont's CPE department[13].
