MUSHARRAF ALI FAROOQI was born on July 26, 1968 in Hyderabad, Pakistan. He is an author and translator. He has translated the 1871 Dastan-e Amir Hamza (Adventures of Amir Hamza) by Ghlaib Lakhnavi and Abdullah Bilgrami and three collections of the contemporary Urdu poet Afzal Ahmed Syed. His first children's picture book, The Cobbler's Holiday or Why Ants Don't Have Shoes, will be published by Roaring Brook Press in Fall 2008. His second novel, The Story of a Widow, will be published by Alfred A. Knopf Canada in Spring 2009. He is currently working on his next novel and organizing the Urdu Project (www.urduproject.com), an online resource for the study of Urdu language and literature. He lives in Toronto, Canada.
