==Credit for previous study==
If you’ve already completed some study and want to use it as credit towards a qualification, you’ll need to speak to the qualification coordinator. You’ll find their contact details on the qualification outline in 'What to study'.

If you’re a university student and want to use OUA units towards a qualification, you’ll need written approval from your home university. Don’t worry about sending us a copy, but make sure you do have written approval BEFORE you enrol with us. We cannot refund you in the case you do not receive credit from your home university.

If you’re a Vocational Education and Training (VET) student and believe you are eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), contact the relevant course coordinator.

RPL evaluates the skills and competencies you have gained through education, work and life experience.

==Crisis Support Counselling==

Many Open Universities students are juggling multiple commitments such as study, work and family. This can sometimes take its toll and lead to strong emotional responses such as anxiety, anger, depression and self-doubt. As you may know, campus social services are not available to OUA students.

OUA now offer a FREE, confidential telephone counselling service to all OUA students. This dedicated Care Line has been set up in conjunction with Crisis Support Services. All counsellors are professionally qualified and experienced. Neither OUA nor any university will receive any information about individual callers. Students can get real, immediate help – not just a referral.

==Scholarships and Awards==

In partnership with seven universities, OUA offer over $100,000 in scholarships and awards each year.

Undergraduate High Achiever Scholarships
OUA offer seven scholarships to the highest achieving undergraduate students taking the majority of their studies through any of Curtin, Griffith, Macquarie, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne or University of South Australia.

Each scholarship will cover your unit fees of up to 20 units, over three years. You can continue to study through us; or continue your studies on-campus. Academic achievement will be assessed on your best four units at your nominated university since 2004.

Applications for 2007 have now closed.

Indigenous Australian Academic Scholarship
OUA offer a scholarship to the highest achieving self identified Indigenous student studying undergraduate or postgraduate units from any of Curtin, Griffith, Macquarie, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne or University of South Australia.

The scholarship will cover your unit fees for up to 20 units for an undergraduate student or eight units for a postgraduate student, over three years. You can continue to study through us; or continue your studies on-campus. Academic achievement will be assessed on your best four units studied since 2004.

Applications for 2007 have now closed.

Postgraduate Academic Achievement Scholarship
We also offer a scholarship to the highest achieving postgraduate student taking units through Curtin, Griffith, Macquarie, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne or University of South Australia.

The scholarship will cover the unit fees of up to eight units, over three years. You can continue to study through us; or continue your studies on-campus. Academic achievement will be assessed on your best four units since 2004.

==How it Works==
Students can enroll online or by phone through OUA in individual units of study (courses) leading to a degree issued by one of the partner universities, although the units studied can come from several of the partners, or they can just study individual units. There are four study periods each year, starting in February, May, August and November. Most courses are wholly or partly online, with only a few requiring face-to-face attendance at workshops, practicums etc. Students pay unit by unit, but can take out the Australian Government's income-contingent loan scheme (FEE HELP) to defer payment. In 2006, around 20,000 students enrolled in 50,000 units. Total revenue was $AUS31.7m, up from $AUS22.9m in 2005 (source: 2006 Annual Report). Fees in 2007 are $AUS595 or $AUS695 for undergraduate units, higher for postgraduate units.

Open Universities Australia (OUA) (previously Open Learning Australia (OLA)) is an Australian open distance education organisation. The majority of students are based in Australia, however the courses are available to the rest of the world. Undergraduate courses offered have no first year entry requirements, and there are no quotas for most courses, hence the 'open' aspect.

Open Universities Australia is owned by seven leading universities and is the country’s fastest growing online higher education service.

Universities

The organisation is a consortium of several Australian universities and colleges, seven of whom own it, with courses being taught through each individual university or college.
