Ideal World is a shopping channel in the UK owned by Ideal Shopping Direct Plc, [1] whose sister shopping channels include Ideal Vitality and Create and Craft. They also sell flowers through their Ideal Flowers website in partnership with Flowers Direct.[2]

March 2001 Fire

On 6 March 2001, a devastating fire totally destroyed everything including their offices, call centre, warehouse, studio and broadcast unit in Peterborough. Broadcasting ceased for a short time and returned only a week later. Broadcasts were filmed from various properties in Peterborough before being put in a Portacabin near the facility. The offices, call centre, warehouse, studio and broadcast units were rebuilt. In September 2004 the rebuilt facility in Peterborough became fully operational.

A new warehouse is now in development adjacent to the current Newark Road site.

Ideal Shopping Direct

Ideal Shopping Direct launched their own falling price Jewellery Channel, Jewellery Vault[3], on the Simply Shopping channel on July 1st 2005, broadcasting live falling price Jewellery 'Games' from 5pm to 1am. Their shopping premise of ("Buy this piece of Jewellery when you see the price you want to pay, but only after the vault door has been opened, the timer has been started, and while the stock level indicator still has some green on it"), with fierce competition from other channels such as GemsTV and price-drop tv, lasted just over a year before being brought back to the Ideal World channel to broadcast as a programming 'strand' rather than as a channel in its own right, only to close completely some time after.

In 2005, Ideal Shopping Direct Plc. won the Alternative Investment Market award for company of the year.[4]

On 3 November 2007, the Ideal World Outlet in the Rivergate Centre, Peterborough, was opened by Shaun Ryan and Debbie Shore. Ideal World Outlet is Ideal's first 'traditional' shop, where end-of-line items and customer returns are sold at further discounts. Ideal World is broadcast on LCD screens in the store.[5]
