Does anyone think that the 'Desperado' character may actually be a woman? I think there is some evidence to support this contention. Even when he says "Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy / She'll hurt you if she's able" -- I think Desperado could be a queen-of-diamonds type woman--that is, a lonely, untouchable beauty. Hence the song's urging young men (i.e. possible Desperado prey) to pick a 'queen of hearts' -- a woman capable of love and openness, unlike the 'Desperado.' Doubt it, as the album was based on the Dalton Gang.
