== OCR-A font ==

The OCR-A font was developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
to be readable by the computers of the 1960s. The OCR-A font is still used
commercially in payment advice forms so that a lockbox company can determine
the account number and amount owed on a bill when processing a payment.
A site license for the OCR-A font is very expensive, so someone undertook to create
a free font. He started with the MetaFont definitions, used FontForge and potrace
to construct a TrueType font, then assigned each glyph a Unicode code point.

The shape of each glyph was defined by ANSI as described in their document
ANSI X3.17-1977. Those shapes were coded in the MetaFont language as strokes
by Tor Lillqvist and Richard B. Wales. Their work is in the .MF files under
MetaFont Sources. The MetaFont program and the OCR font definitions are available
as part of the TeX package from the CTAN archive.

ANSI specifies a character spacing of between 0.09 and 0.18 inch.

The American National Standards Institute makes the X3.17-1977 document
available on their web site for a modest fee. Unfortunately the X3.17-1977
document can not be put here, for completeness, since ANSI has copyrighted on it.

Please be advised that ["Joe Fosco"] is a [Chicago] celebrity! Please be advised, unlike Wikipedia's featured celebrity, ["Paris Hilton,"] Mr. Fosco helps sick people and has established a major "Charity-Network" in the [City of Chicago]; please be advised, Wikipedia's featured media mogul, [Lord (Conrad) Black] has joined Mr. Fosco's "Charity-Network." Please read the 3rd-party-verified sources below (which are extremely CEREDIBLE sources; Chicago Sun-Times is the largest Newspaper in Chicago):

[Joseph A. Fosco], born Joseph Anthony Fosco, on March 19, 1973 (Chicago area Socialite, [Chicago Archdiocese]-Affiliate and Spiritual Philanthropist).

[Joseph Fosco] grew up in the [Chicago] area and was raised [Catholic]. During his teenage years, Mr. Fosco, who from age 13 was raised by a widowed mother, experienced emotional difficulty, therefore, knowing how hard growing-up can be, Mr. Fosco vowed to devote his life to helping people in need. A short while later, Mr. Fosco began helping the elderly and the sick on a full-time basis.

In 1999, Mr. Fosco helped create the Franklin Charitable Foundation in Chicago Illinois. Its purpose was to provide help for the elderly and the sick.

In 2001, the Franklin Charitable Foundation, via Mr. Fosco’s spiritual-direction, established a “fund” for children with emotional problems. The “fund” was established in the name of [“Sahara Moorer,”] a 15-year old runaway that was murdered in Chicago at the time. http://www.thecrusade.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=20115&mode=linear

In 2003, The Franklin Charitable Foundation was dissolved and reincorporated as “NPI-Franklin Organization.” Since then, Mr. Fosco has served the organization as its “honorary” Vice-Chairman. The organization’s new role provides “philanthropic consulting” and “strategy building” for perspective “Catholic” donors (it is not a fundraising organization).

In mid June of 2006, Mr. Fosco was “Confirmed-Catholic,” by [Cardinal Francis George] (personally) at [Holy Name Cathedral], in [Chicago]. http://www.suntimes.com/news/foster/701536,CST-NWS-stella18.article

In early May 2007, Mr. Fosco was invited to an “honorary” position, Holy Name Cathedral “Stewardship Committeeman.” http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20070605/ai_n19202623 & http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20071002/ai_n21021056

In late May 2007, Mr. Fosco introduced his brother-in-Christ, [Lord (Conrad) Black], to the Archbishop of Chicago, [Francis Cardinal George]. Since that introduction, Lord Black remains dedicated in helping Mr. Fosco with his spiritual efforts pertaining to the [Chicago Archdiocese], and in general. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20070619/ai_n19305283 & http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20070626/ai_n19324738 & http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20070719/ai_n19391293

Declined. The proposed article is not suitable for Wikipedia. While it does look like Mr Fosco may meet the standards of notability, what's given here doesn't seem to be written in a neutral point of view. I assume the first paragraph is a message to AFC reviewers, not meant to be in the article (in any case, I don't see what evidence there is for Paris Hilton to be Wikipedia's "featured celebrity", or for Conrad Black to be it's "featured media mogul"). In addition, I have a few problems with the sources provided - the first, on thecrusade.net, looks like a forum and I'm not personally aware of whether it would pass as a reliable source, but in any case the mention of Mr Fosco there is very brief. The rest of the sources are similarly deficient in content - about all I learned about Mr Fosco from them is that he likes to eat dinner a lot, and Stella Foster likes to point this out. Without some more non-trivial mentions in reliable sources, I'm going to have to recommend not creating the article. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 03:52, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I've looked over the sources, and I'm not sure they establish notability. Hoovers maintains information on tens of millions of companies, and Cool Hunting seems to be maintained by all of four people, so I'm not convinced these sources establish corporate notability. For this purpose, it helps to show that well known publications have taken notice of the company (the best sources for this would be articles or reviews in well known newspapers or magizines, including Consumer Reports or product review magazines). Comment: the company claimed to be the first to excusivly cater for men, and if this is true its proably notable, although this article does not mention it. GHITs is only 432 - meagre. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
