"My Malpractical Decision"

"My Malpractical Decision" is the 77th episode of the American sitcom Scrubs. It originally aired on November 9, 2004. The episode was part 1 of 2, the second part being My Female Trouble.

Plot

Neena Broderick, an attorney who specializes in malpractice cases, turns up at the hospital in search of discontent patients. Later, it turns out that a patient in need of risky surgery is her father. This leads Kelso, Dr. Cox, and J.D. to refuse to treat the man. Neena convinces Mr. Corman to sue Turk for ruining his tennis serve. After wrestling with the moral issue of treating Neena's father (and after Neena's flirtations with him), J.D. decides that the treatment should go ahead.

Production Details

  • Turk changes his cell phone number to 1-916-CALL-TURK (in fact, 1-916-CAL-LTUR, when written in the standard format). Unlike most phone numbers given in television shows and movies, which often use the fictional 555 exchange, 1-916-CALL-TURK was a real phone number registered by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence. Calls to the number are generally answered by a voicemail message about the latest news regarding Scrubs, but a few surprised callers had their calls answered by members of the Scrubs cast and crew, including Bill Lawrence, Robert Maschio, Sam Lloyd, Zach Braff, and Donald Faison. Cultural references

  • In one of J.D.'s fantasies, Janitor is seen reading the newspaper in a manor-like living-room. While he reads, he says that "apparently there was some sort of election held recently." The episode first aired on November 9, 2004, so this is in all likelihood a reference to the United States presidential election held a week earlier on November 2. Scrubs did not air on election night, so this episode was the first to show after the election.
