Claude Erignac was born on the October 15 1937 in Mende, France. In 1996 he went to Ajaccio in Corsica to take office as the Prefect of Corse-du-Sud. He was assassinated on february 6 1998. A Corsican nationalist militant Yvan Colonna was suspected of the killing, and was arrested in 2003. He was convicted to life in prison in 2007 and has lodged an appeal. The case is still pending.
