Parugu (Telugu:పరుగు, English translation: Run) is a Telugu film that released on May 1, 2008 and is directed by Bhaskar. Allu Arjun, Sheela and Poonam Bajwa play the lead roles. Dil Raju, a big-time producer, produces the film whilst Mani Sharma composes the music. The movie premiered in Prasads IMAX on April 30th at 10:15PM.[1]

Development

The film's title has been in major headlines prior to the film's release. During the film's production, the film has been referred to as Premikudu, Romeo, Enta Ghaatu Premayo, Araku and Varadhi, before being titled as Parugu.[2]

Plot

It's love at first sight for Krishna (Allu Arjun) when he catches sight of Meena (Sheela) on a misty morning. Meena, however is unaware of the effect she has on Krishna.

Her family, particularly her father Neelakantha (Prakash Raj [Images]), is going through a rough patch after her sister Subbalakshmi (Poonam Bazwa) elopes on the day of her marriage. Neelakantha is angry (as she has defied him leading to the loss of the family prestige) and heartbroken as he cannot see his daughter. On learning that his son-in-law's friends are involved, he rounds them up with the help of his huge family members and locks them up in his 'outhouse-cum-junk yard'. One of the boys involved is Krishna.

The rest of the story describes how Krishna handles the pressures of the father and his love. [3]

Inspiration

This film seems inspired from Chiranjeevi’s family drama that ensued when his daughter srija eloped with her boy friend. This film tries to make Chiranjeevi’s family and his deeds positive and totally focuses on the agony he and his family faced by the society during the entire elopement drama which took place in October 2007[4]. Allu Arjun’s presence in the movie supports the fact that his entire family was against the elopement drama of Srija, but has been depicted in a positive way. There is also speculation that this film’s release is prior to Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics and tries to justify his deeds in the case of his daughter’s elopement.[5]

Reception

Parugu opened with good collections, there were mixed reviews for the film.Telugu movie webstie Fresh and Rotten rated it at 72%.Jeevi rated it 3/5.
