This is a list of the main animal characters in the 101 Dalmatians franchise.

Characters in the book and movies

Dalmatians

Pongo

Perdita

Patch One of Pongo and Perdita's original 3 pups. He is the largest of the pups in the novel by Dodie Smith and the series. His biggest roles were in the animated movies. He enjoys the television star Thunderbolt, and often says, "I'd like to tear Dirty Dawson's gizzard out!" He got most of the limelight in the 2002 animated movie, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London adventure. He is present in the series, mostly seen as a background character, but his biggest speaking role is in "Citizen Canine". In the novel, he was born with a black eye, which he has in the rest of the franchise, which was unnatural for a dalmatian being newborn. He is also protective of his sister, Cadpig. He has a black eye, one ear black, one white, and sports a red collar, except in the live-action movie (blue), and in the series, he has no collar, instead, he wears a rope.

Lucky

Lucky is a fictional character originally created by Dodie Smith for her book The Hundred and One Dalmatians and subsequently used in all of Disney's movies featuring the 101 Dalmatians: One Hundred and One Dalmatians, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure and 101 Dalmatians plus the TV series.

The Book

In Dodie Smith's book, Lucky was one of the original 15 puppies of Pongo and Missis. He is easily recognisable because the spots on his back form an inverted horseshoe. In the book, he actively took part in the escape as the leader of the puppies and helping the Colonel, his parents and Lieutenant Willow by training the pups to obey orders.

The Movies

In One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Lucky was also one of the original 15 puppies, but he is the son of Pongo and Perdita (Missis' name being changed to Perdita for the movie). His active personality was transferred to Patch, and he was usually one of the followers, not the leaders. He is also one of the weakest puppies in the movie. When he was born, he died shortly after, only to be revived by Pongo and Mr. Dearly which may explain his weakness and how he got his name. Lucky was the one who gave Pongo the idea to cover themselves in soot to hide from Cruella after he was arguing with Patch and both of them fell in the soot. Despite his name, he is probably the most unlucky puppy in 101 Dalmations because he was close to dying in the march back home. His soot disguise also got washed away in front of Cruella de Vil. In the 1961 movie, he is voiced by Mimi Gibson. In 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, the 1961 movie's direct-to-video sequel, Lucky was a minor character. He is voiced by Ben Tibber.

Lucky was once again featured in the animated series based on the movies and the book, this time as a main character. Lucky retains many characteristics from the book such as the horseshoe on the back, black ears from the movie and the active personality from the book. In many ways, this Lucky is perhaps more true to Dodie Smith's book. Lucky is headstrong, stubborn, brave (sometimes to the point of foolishness), loyal, fearless (except when it comes to getting shots from the veterinarian) and the favourite puppy of Roger Dearly and often takes his position as favourite puppy for granted and gets very jealous when he feels that any of them are trying to pry this coveted position from him, especially Tripod.

Lucky can always be seen hanging out with Cadpig, Rolly and the chicken Spot plus he has ongoing rivalries with Mooch and Tripod. He particularly despises Cruella and is also a TV and computer game addict. His TV hero is Thunderbolt. His adventurous and rebellious spirit often gets him and his friends into trouble be it with Lt. Pug of the Bark Brigade, their parents, Pongo and Perdita, or Cruella de Vil. Lucky is also disrespectful to his elders and his superiors(notable exceptions are his parents, the Colonel and Tibs) and this often puts him at odds with Lucy the Goose and Lieutenant Pug. Lucky seems to have fallen in love twice: with Two-Tone and Rebecca, a Dalmatian in a village ruled by an ancestor of Cruella that was cursed, by a witch who looks like Nanny, to appear only once every 100 years during which, everyone is made to love the city, except the ruler and all chickens. When Lucky tried to capture Lambo single-handedly, he ended up putting himself in danger but was rescued by Cadpig. His obsession with Thunderbolt has got them into plenty of trouble. On the plus-side, he is quick thinking and can be just as fast in getting out of trouble as he is in getting into trouble, a trait that has saved him and his friends on more than one occasion. He has also proven himself to be a very loyal and faithful friend and is willing to put his friends before his own gain, as can be seen in several episodes. He also seems to be quite a brilliant tactician and strategist when it comes to creating plans to break into the Chow Tower and is an expert at infiltrating into Cruella's mansion to complete certain objectives. He also seems to be quite a brilliant inventor as he has created flying machines before for both himself and Spot although they always crash in the end.

He is voiced by Pamela Aldon and Debi Mae West.

Rolly

Rolly is a fictional character in the 101 Dalmatians movies created by Disney and based on a character from Dodie Smith's book, The Hundred and One Dalmatians, and also appeared in the Disney animated television series.

The Book

Rolly's name in the books is "Roly-Poly". In the book, Roly-Poly was also one of the original 15 puppies born of Pongo and Missis. He was a mischievous puppy who often got into trouble. It was he who inspired Pongo to tell the others to roll in the soot to disguise themselves from the Badduns and Cruella de Vil after falling in the soot and playing around in it.

The Movies

The character Roly-Poly was adapted from the book and into Walt Disney's 1961 classic animated movie One Hundred and One Dalmatians. His name was changed to Rolly and he was given an extra trait: an enormous appetite. He has a red collar (as do all the male puppies in the movie) and spotted ears and can be recognized easily because he is rather plump. His mischievousness was also toned down. He was also one of Pongo & Perdita's 15 puppies who were kidnapped by Cruella de Vil. Rolly also made an appearance in 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, the direct-to-video sequel to the 1961 movie, as a minor character.

He still retains the spotted ears from the movie but he now wears a blue collar. He kept his big appetite but was made to look even fatter in the series. Rolly is a loyal brother to his siblings but does hesitate when it comes to going on an adventure with his brother, Lucky, and he prefers to remain out of conflicts even if his friends could really use his assistance. He spends most of his time eating and watching food commercials on TV, if he is not on an adventure with the gang.

Rolly’s biggest asset is his acute sense of smell, which is something that is unique to him as his sense of smell is much more refined than that of the rest of the Dalmatians on the farm. In one episode, this ability was the one thing that kept him on the Bark Brigade, despite the fact that he tends to fail nearly every test and he has no desire to perform the physical mandates required of the service. He has used his sense of smell in many situations to help his friends out, such as when they need help finding a specific object, such as Anita in the 3-part Dalmatian Vacation movie when she ran away from Roger after a misunderstanding with him, or if they need to find their way out of a location, though his nose isn’t perfect and he can’t always use it to his advantage.

Rolly's biggest flaw is still his appetite. In fact, his strong desire for food has caused many problems for himself, as well as his friends and family, as he tends to go out of his way to find an easy meal, even in situations that require his utmost concentration and best behavior. Several examples are when he was captured by P.H. deVil with a sausage tied to a fishing line and subsequently used as the basis for a corporate espionage robot built for Cruella and the second was when he was captured yet again by P.H. deVil, this time disguised as an ice cream truck man, and used as a test subject for his junk food industry. Another would be during Bark Brigade missions. However, if there is one thing Rolly dislikes most, it is being reminded that he is fat.

However, despite this major flaw in regard to his personality, Rolly is well liked by a vast majority of the Dalmatians and Lucky even considers him to be his best friend; though there are several Dalmatians, as well as other animals such as Mooch and Lt. Pug on the Dearly Farm, who mock him for his weight, which often causes him to become depressed. While he may not be the best of friends, Rolly has proven time and time again that he does try to do his best to make others happy. Lucky, Cadpig and Spot tend to forgive their friend whenever he does make a mistake, as since they have more enjoyable times than bad ones, they usually overlook his failings without giving it much thought, though they still sometimes poke fun at Rolly being horizontally-challenged.

Cadpig is a fictional character originally created by Dodie Smith for her books The Hundred and One Dalmatians and The Starlight Barking, subsequently used in the Disney animated television series.

The books

In The Hundred and One Dalmatians, Cadpig was one of Pongo and Missis' original 15 puppies. She was the smallest of the litter and shared a close bond with Patch. She is referred to as "the Cadpig", Cadpig being a name for runts in a pig's litter. She was a very weak puppy: she could not walk long distances and got tired easily. She was also addicted to television. In The Starlight Barking, she was the pet of the British Prime Minister, and aided her parents during the events of the story. She first appeared as a puppy of Pongo in 101 Dalmatians.

The TV Series

In September, 1997, Disney released the television series, which was a new installment in their 101 Dalmatians franchise rather than a continuation. In the series there were four main characters: Lucky, Cadpig, Rolly and Spot. Cadpig is voiced by Kath Soucie.

Cadpig was the youngest of the ninety-nine Dalmatian puppies and she was also the runt of the litter, being physically smaller than her brothers and sisters. Her physical appearance also has some characteristics that are unique to her, as she has a larger head than most of the other Dalmatians, along with floppy ears and blue eyes. Despite her small stature, however, Cadpig can perform feats of strength that her brothers and sisters often cannot do (such as being able to lift another character who is twice her size), though she usually only exhibits such strength when she is angry; she also has an adept sense of hearing, which is stronger than that of her brothers and sisters. Cadpig also seems to have an extensive knowledge of (fictional) tribes and cultures. For example, after coming last in the obstacle course along with her friends, she said to Lieutenant Pug "Say Lieutenant, did you know the Ashpazi tribe of Hepzetonga honours those who come in last with golden trophies because they have shown endurance and determination?" to which Lt. Pug laughed sarcastically and ordered her to do push-ups. Her name is often fouled up by Lt. Pug to form "Campon", "Pig Dog" and many other errors.

Throughout the series, Cadpig is seen hanging around the Dearly Farm with Lucky and Rolly, her best friends out of her ninety-eight siblings, though she also enjoys the company of Spot, a chicken who longs to be a dog. Despite the fact that the four of them get along very well, they tend to get into arguments every so often, since they get on one another’s nerves due to their vastly different personalities. However, Cadpig appears to cause more problems on the Dearly Farm because of her naïve view of the world, as she strongly believes in her ideals and she often attempts to make the world a better place. Unfortunately, Cadpig’s attempts to resolve conflict often leads to furthered conflict, and her love of manipulating the truth often results in offending the parties that she’s attempting to assist. She did, however, prove herself as an excellent hostage negotiator, freeing Lucky from Lambo by bombarding him with her speech for hours and to him was like fingernails on the blackboard of his brain. As Lieutenant Pug said, "No-one can talk their way out of trouble like you can!"

Many of the denizens on the Dearly Farm have trouble understanding what Cadpig says, since she loves to speak in what Spot calls “metaphysical metaphors”, though she once mentioned that she got a thesaurus for her birthday, which she implied has helped expand her vocabulary, especially when it comes to synonyms of stupidity such as moron. However, Cadpig’s ability to psychoanalyze other individuals is a true ability, as she can easily find the emotional scars within others, often resulting in breakdowns that causes the subject to do nothing but cry and run off. Several episodes of the series make note of this fact, and it has saved the Dearly Dalmatians many times, though Cadpig isn’t always capable of resolving a conflict with words. In a later episode, when Cadpig wanted Mooch to stop fighting in a wrestling match, she decided that she could only achieve success if she pretended to be in love with him, and then force him to change his ways. She ultimately succeeded, and then she moved on to another wrestler, el Diablo, to convince him to stop as well; though despite this, Cadpig has never truly fallen in love, as she only uses love as a means of manipulation. However, she did have a minor crush on Blaze, the runaway German Shepherd who claimed to be "the Son of Thunderbolt". Cadpig also displays a great gift for sarcasm. The remarks are usually used to bring Lucky back to earth when he is on an ego-trip. Some examples are:

• "Attention, Flight Director Lucky, your ego-trip has been cancelled."
• "Welcome to Lucky's rich fantasy life, and now, Back to reality!"
• "Yeah, and maybe the Tooth Fairy will fly away to Lollypop land and get a cavity!"
• "Of course Rolly's a robot! We're all Robots! Whirrr! Whizz!"

Cadpig has had several alternate personalities in various episodes of the series, each of which is a manifestation of her true personality. In one episode, when Cruella De Vil took over all the television networks, the Dalmatians decided to imagine how an episode of “Thunderbolt P.I.” would end, in which Cadpig’s ending involved an alien known as Gipdac, “Gipdac” being an anagram of “Cadpig”. Gipdac was dedicated to finding peace in the universe; she speaks with others, not through oral discussion, but through a form of telepathy. She travels the universe in her heart-shaped spacecraft that is disguised in storm clouds, and she has her two assistants, who appear to be Horace and Jasper, assist her in her endeavors to teach the way of peace to others.

In the Christmas special, when Cruella De Vil was visited by the ghost of Horace and Jasper, he warned Cruella that she would be visited by three spirits. Later in that episode, Cadpig came to Cruella as the Ghost of Christmas Past, who told Cruella that she was going to take her on a journey trough her childhood. When Cruella initially refused, Cadpig resorted to using special effects in an attempt to scare her into changing her mind, which ultimately succeeded. As the Ghost of Christmas Past, Cadpig did her duty and she showed Cruella why she is evil today, though Cruella’s lack of caring over her past misdeeds only frustrated Cadpig, who ultimately decided to cut her time short and leave Cruella without finishing her tour into the past.

However, some of Cadpig’s “alter egos” aren’t really alternate egos, but rather, a shift in her personality to achieve a greater goal. In the three-part series finale, when Cadpig realizes that she had to do what she could to save Anita, she decided to dress up, with green algae and a headband with two planets, as the Shaggy Green Messenger, a prophesied being that the “SAUCER-DOLTS” (Society for Achieving Utopian Consciousness through Extraterrestrial Rebirth & Desert Operational Lacrosse Team) are looking for, as they believe that the Shaggy Green Messenger would take them to the Mother Ship, and to their (disagreed upon) planet such as Squignon, where the rivers run with cream soda, or Dripnon, where the rivers run with gold, and many other planets. Cadpig’s antics managed to free Anita from the group in question and through such, Cadpig was ultimately responsible for saving Roger and Anita’s marriage, though it was later revealed that in doing such, the “SAUCER-DOLTS” managed to find the Mother Ship, which suggested that she really was the Shaggy Green Messenger.

Dipstick is anthor 15 puppy of Pongo and Perdita.Tends to hang out with Two-Tone, Whizzer more than the rest of his brothers and sister.He also appears in the 1996 live action 101 Dalmatians, look as he has partial black ears and tail, he also isn't exactely the smartest puppy.

Jewel In One Hundred and One Dalmatians,Jewel was also one of the original 15 puppies,Pongo and Perdita,because of the way of her spots are circled around her neck which is why she has the name Jewel.

Whizzer is another puppy of Pongo Perdita, case of incontinence of the bladder, He always has a hard time in holding in his bladder,Whizzer also hangs Dipstick, and Two-Tone

Oddball Oddball is a character from the film sequel 102 Dalmatians as the main protagonist. Oddball is born the only daughter to Dipstick, a puppy from the original film, and his mate, Dottie, as well as sister to the rest of the couple's offspring, Domino and Little Dipper.

Oddball is the only member in her family who doesn't have her spots, possibly the youngest member in the group. Oddball is known to have an obsession with spots and whenever she sees some, she will proceed to use them to prove she finally has them but when she uses ink to give her spot-like marks, she can get into danger as she is knocked out of the window on a copy machine as well as running out of a building carrying a puppy puppet and falling into strings of balloons. Having to wear a spotted shirt to cure her obsession, she has been mistakened to have spots.

At the end of the film, she finally has her spots at last, so curing her obsession and making her quite excited.

Two-Tone

Two-Tone is a fictional character originally created by Dodie Smith for her book The Starlight Barking, also used in the 1996 live action movie 101 Dalmatians and subsequently in the Disney animated television series.

The Books

Two-Tone did not appear in the original book by Dodie Smith, The Hundred and One Dalmatians. However, although her role wasn't known, she was mentioned in The Starlight Barking, with a litter of pups of her own and a mate. She was not featured in the One Hundred and One Dalmatians Disney film but was featured in the 1996 live action remake.

The Movies

In 101 Dalmatians, Two-Tone was one of Pongo and Perdita's original 15 puppies. She was one of the female pups (alongside Penny and Jewel) to get a collar. Her spot pattern was seen half all white and half spotted with a black ear. She has green eyes, and loves music. She also made a short appearance in 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure.

In September, 1997, Disney released the television series, which was a new installment in their 101 Dalmatians franchise rather than a continuation. In the series there were four main characters: Lucky, Cadpig, Rolly and Spot. Two-Tone however was made a background character with minor speaking roles but each time she was given the spotlight, her only speaking roles being in "Love Em and Flea Em", "Twelve Angry Pups", "Roll Out the Pork Barrel" and "Mall Pups". She also shows up in the background on many episodes, mostly seen as a tough tomboy. Throughout the series, Two-Tone is seen hanging around the Dearly Farm with fellow siblings Dipstick and Wizzer, she also hangs out with Mooch, a mixed breed dog whom was already living on the farm, although he is abusive to Two-Tone she remains around him even though she also has feelings for Lucky as well, Two-Tone's look was changed (as was with most of the puppies) from being half spotted half white to now having two black ears, a black spot on her cheek in the semblance of a beauty mark, a gold earring clipped in her right ear, but her most unusual part of this incarnation of herself happens to be her lower body, rear, and tail which happens to be black with white colored spots; her body shape is also a little chubbier. Her love for music was taken out and her tomboyish nature shines through this incarnation.

She is voiced by Tara Strong.

Spot

Spot is a fictional character that appears as one of the main characters in the Disney animated series 101 Dalmatians: The Series.

Spot is a relatively new character in the whole 101 Dalmatians genre. She is, quite simply, a chicken who wants to become a dog. The reason for this is uncertain, but it is most likely because she hangs so much around with the three other main characters Lucky, Cadpig and Rolly.

As a result she has picked up some dog behaviour such as scratching herself with her feet, barking, howling at the moon and, it was once mentioned, urinated on a fire hydrant, much to Cornelia's disapproval.

Spot is very highly strung and is prone to literally bouncing off walls, much to the annoyance of her friends. She provides comic relief and slapstick humour throughout the series.
