The Fellowship of Christians in Universities and Schools (FOCUS) is a national, non-denominational Christian fellowship based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Though its members live throughout the United States, FOCUS primarily serves independent schools on the east coast. It was founded in 1961 by the Rev. Peter C. Moore.

Organization

National

FOCUS's national ministry supports programs for independent school students and faculty. FOCUS invites scholars, artists, ministers, and professionals to address students and faculty so that they may grow in their own faith and, in turn, integrate Christian principles and values into their daily lives.

Regional

In the 10 regions of FOCUS, staff and volunteers coordinate school meetings, regional Bible studies, retreats and special programs. For example, FOCUS's Boarding School Ministry is an outreach geared to the specific needs and opportunities of the boarding schools, and FOCUS's New York City region is tailored for the many independent day schools there.

Faculty Fellowships

FOCUS's Faculty Ministry works with faculty. It seeks to encourage their professional development, spiritual growth, and training in ministry. The Faculty Ministry provides networking opportunities, hosts an annual summer conference, and offers local faculty retreats.

National Programs

FOCUS has national programs throughout the school year in all of its regions. It also holds summer programs both on its campus on the island of Martha's Vineyard, around the New England area, and in North Carolina. Over the Christmas holiday, FOCUS participants have Winter House Parties, two for upper school students and one for middle school students. These ski weeks are in Upstate New York and New Hampshire.
