The 2008 French Grand Prix is the eighth race of the 2008 Formula One season. It will be held on 20 June–22 June at Magny-Cours.
In March 2007, the Fédération Française du Sport (FFSA) stated their intention to rest the Magny-Cours circuit from the Formula One world championship for the 2008 season.[1] However on 24 July 2007 it was reported that Bernie Ecclestone had "agreed in principle to maintain the race at Magny-Cours in 2008, and even 2009, if there were no other alternative."[2] A more recent statement by Ecclestone made on May 12 2008 to French sports magazine L'Equipe confirms that the 2008 Grand Prix will indeed be the last one held at Magny Cours. Ecclestone said that he discussed the issue with French prime minister Francois Fillon, hinting at the possibility of a street race in or close to Paris.[3]
The 2007 French Grand Prix was won by Kimi Räikkönen of Ferrari, followed by team-mate Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes.
