Hello, I'm sorry if I breached any rules - there seems to be a myriad amount of them and I'm still in Wiki-nappies so to speak. I certainly meant to threaten anyone, my humour obviously doesn't translate well through text! Thanks for the heads-up! to mark it resolved and say that user may create category. As I said in AN, it's ripe for delete if it remains empty for a few days. I am not the arguing type.

A very good solution rather than have people attack me as they were starting to do. 3 cheers for you. [[User:Voxtel|Voxtel]] ([[User talk:Voxtel|talk]]) 22:47, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Ideally, please post new messages at the bottom. If you can't find something you recently posted, I might have moved it down there or it could have been archived if you posted it over 7 days ago. Cheers :)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Comment

Regarding slakr:

Why did my page get deleted?
I have no idea what you're talking about. What's vandalism?
If you received a warning from me and you're not logged in, you might have gotten an old warning I sent to someone who shares your IP address. On the other hand, if you've made recent edits and received a recent warning message from me and you genuinely believe that it's not vandalism, don't fret-- simply drop me a message below, because I could have simply made a silly mistake. :)

Regarding SineBot:

Why does SineBot keep signing stuff I've already signed?
All comments should have a signature that includes both a link to your user page (slakr) and a datestamp (05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)) (per signatures - internal links). This is most easily generated by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your contributions, which makes something like "slakr 05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)".[reply]

If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

If you're still having problems after trying that, post a message below. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
I don't want my comments signed by SineBot. How do I get it to ignore me or my talk page?
Please use one of the opt-out methods listed on its user page.
SineBot forgot to sign something it should have signed.
Usually this happens because the bot isn't sure if it really should sign something, so it defaults to not signing it (e.g., in cases of complex edits). It does this to avoid being annoying. Other times, a comment might be made when the bot is down for maintenance, so the bot simply never sees it.
SineBot signed something that it genuinely should not have signed.
Please let me know-- especially if you think it's not a one-time thing. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
Is SineBot's source code available?
Not currently.
I'm signing with four tildes (~~~~) but it's still saying I didn't!
You likely enabled raw signatures. Open your preferences, click the "User profile" tab, make sure that "Treat the above as wiki markup" is NOT checked, and click Save; it should be fixed. If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

Slakr Rules!

=) your bot is great! yeaahhhhhhh i think that all the day is great day for anybody but sometime it's very danger for us, isn't it ?

Spreading some Wikilove

Hello!

You've blocked an entire browser!

Your block of 195.189.142.0/23 today has blocks users of the opera mini browser (the best browser for pocket PCs and smartphones). Can you please unblock it and contact the Opera Admins if you have concerns about how their servers/proxies are set up, but in the meantime let us use a decent browser for our mobile editing. Thanks.The-Pope (talk) 13:06, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. It's being used for abuse. Requests are round robined across multiple ips, much like google's web accelerator did. Opera is more than welcome to use our XFF system, and legitimate editors are welcome to apply for block exemptions. --slakrtalk / 23:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signing in Error

SineBot just signed a line in a comment that already was signed. This happened at Talk:Potential superpowers, with this diff. I'm not sure if there is any easy fix to avoid this, but an error nonetheless. Going to try and trigger it below. =Species8473= (talk) 20:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was because of the time difference. SineBot assumes that if you make a bunch of edits within a short period of time (~5-8 minutes or so) that you're simply revising what you've already posted. However, if you make one substantially later (e.g., 20 minutes later) and your signature isn't visible to the bot in the diff, it doesn't know what you're adding stuff to. Thus, the best method of avoiding it is to append to lists toward the bottom, use !nosign! in the edit summary, or indent additions below what you've already added. Cheers. --slakrtalk / 23:49, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

some more thanks

I just wanted to say something that you have prolly heard before but I really appreciate SineBot :) it's helpful not only to figure out what people have said to me on talk pages but for those times when I forget to sign my own! great work on that bot! Sykko (talk) 04:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

78.168.79.189‎

The ip address that you recently blocked, the one that was repeatedly vandalizing the articles Limassol‎, Larnaca‎ and Paphos may be a sockpuppet of another user using a dynamic ip address or a proxy because the same vandalisms that were committed by that ip address today were also committed by several other ip addresses (that are similar all of these ip addresses start with 78.168.) before today to the same articles.[1][2][3]--Apollonius 1236 (talk) 11:54, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked the range since they were doing it over several pages. I'll drop the ISP a note. --slakrtalk / 19:21, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks--Apollonius 1236 (talk) 23:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the vandalisms are still happening (and are coming from the same ip range as before (78.168.)) even though you blocked the ip range [4].--Apollonius 1236 (talk) 15:38, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SineBot

Is it possible to opt out of the "your recent edits" message SineBot adds to user talk pages? I still sometimes forget to sign pages on talk pages (I'm getting much better) but I know I do this so don't need SineBot reminding me. However I think it would be sueful if SineBot still signs my comments when I forget. Dpmuk (talk) 23:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, the recent edits message is essentially for nagging people into remembering to sign. It'll only leave one once every 3 days, and only if you forget to sign 3 edits in a 24 hour period. That way it doesn't get excessively annoying :P --slakrtalk / 03:48, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd disagree about it not getting excessively annoying. Surely not having this option will just encourage people to optout of SineBot entirely to avoid this message (as presumbly you won't get the message if opted out) which is worse for everyone as messages will go unsigned. Dpmuk (talk) 10:50, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most people aren't that forgetful, thankfully. --slakrtalk / 14:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opera ban

I don't think you've thought this through.

If, firefox users were banned from editing the site because of vandalism then there would be quite an outcry. Millions of people use opera and there's nothing to stop you from blocking the IP range for a few hours occasionally if and when it used for abuse but to block until 2013 at the very least requires you to obtain community consensus for this. Browser fan (talk) 07:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Firefox doesn't route all traffic through proxies. Nor does Opera desktop. Nor does IE *shiver*. Google Web Accelerator did, though, and we subsequently axed it. Like I said, if you want this fixed, contact Opera and let them know you're mad. Maybe then they'll make motions to work with us to help eliminate abuse. --slakrtalk / 09:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think a community discussion is warrented because many Opera Mini users are unable to surf without it - very different to web accelerator. Please could you arrange one? Browser fan (talk) 16:04, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i Am facing the same Problem, have asked here Bharath (talk) 17:17, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I use Opera Mini from time to time. Have you hard blocked it? Or am I exempt as an admin? Where is the discussion relating to hardblocking the entire range for five years? Neıl 17:35, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are exempt as an admin, as is anyone else with the ipblockexempt permission. Sam Korn (smoddy) 18:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Opera Mini forwards via XFF the real IP of the user, for all users except those using the demo version. Who were you having problems with that you blocked the whole range, and did you ask a checkuser to look at the edits? Thatcher 19:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. It seems that the demo version screws up when it comes to the XFF. Moreover, I would guess that the range isn't on our trusted XFF list, otherwise none of these users would be affected; for, the XFF of the demo site returns back addresses within the range. This one was one of the troublemakers, and I was going "how is the dude switching ips so fast?" I would have just semi-ed the page until I realized there was some other stuff within the range, the demo, etc. Anyway, since this issue has popped up before, and since apparently Opera did nothing about it when we tried to ask them to, I figured that the ideal approach would be to get the users to ask them to do it as well. :P --slakrtalk / 22:53, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Logging in by going directly to the login page works fine, as evidenced by this test account that is ipblock-exempt being able to post. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SlakrTEST (talkcontribs) 21:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
