Let the queries begin
Can anyone confirm the title of the 1980 shounen winner? I can't find anything like Susa-no-o in the lists of Gō Nagai's works, aside from in the Hahn Library list. —Quasirandom 02:02, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- For all its worth, the Japanese Wiki page and this fansite state Susa-no-O (1979 ) and Susa-no-O Densetsu (1985) as Go Nagai's works. Scroogey McDucky 12:09, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- That first must be the one, then. Thankee. —Quasirandom 14:25, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Next query: Is the award given to the artist (for the work(s) cited) or the work (identified with the artist)? The German Wikipedia article, and other sources about the 'net, seem to say to the person, rather than the work as we are showing. Can anyone confirm this one way or another through the official site? —Quasirandom 07:36, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Given to the person for the work. Does it even matter? Note it on the work page as recipient of that award, note it on the person page as received the award for that work. Same as any award. I'm not sure what's confusing you... Doceirias 08:09, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm thinking of the citation given on this page. We're saying the work, now. —Quasirandom 08:17, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- It is a technicality. Both the authors and the titles indeed won the award, but there should be a distinction of which one is actually credited. Of course there are varying opinions of whether it actually matters or not, but it would be better to make everything clear from the start to avoid potential confrontation. <br\>Regarding the question, the industry seems to identify with the works more. However, the authors are indeed the ones receiving the awards and being identified with "Kodansha Manga Award Winners". The award page on the official site attest to that as much, with the authors; names being bolded above the titles. Scroogey McDucky 08:49, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm just not seeing it. An actor wins the award for his performance in a certain movie, manga artists win their awards for a certain title they have done. Yet we still say the movie won eight academy awards. They're both credited. On the Parasyte page it should say that the book won the award; on Hiroshi Iwaaki's page it should say he won the award for Parasyte. Doceirias 10:06, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have stated that both win the awards. And yes, that means that both page should state it as such. You do not need too explain that point. However, the issue at hand is which one is actually more eligible to be credited as the receiver of the award. Should it be "Harold Sakuishi, for Beck" or "Beck, by Harold Sakuishi" (which seems to be implied by the article right now).<br\>It may not matter to you. Heck, it does not really matter to me, either. However, it may matter to someone, which is why we are having this discussion. Scroogey McDucky 12:59, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Continuing the Academy Awards analogy, there's an award to actor John Doe for his role as Jim the Clerk in Blockbuster! -- and there's an award for best picture to Blockbuster!, which is given to the movie's producers for creating it. The way it's currently worded, it implies they're the latter type of award. —Quasirandom 14:24, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- But the manga artist is the producer in that analogy, so those two awards are the same. There's only one person responsible for a manga. I believe the awards are given to Harold Sakuishi for Beck, and should be noted as above. There is an awards ceremony, and the artist does arrive and accept the award in person. Doceirias 18:17, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Right. But that brings up the daunting prospect of changing the entire table from entries like "Black Jack, Osamu Tezuka" to "Osamu Tezuka for Black Jack". We may need to call upon the power of Regular Expressions to bless us. —Quasirandom 20:24, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Absolutely no need to change the table. We have the winning manga, we have the winning author. The information is all the same regardless of semantics. I honestly don't even perceive a difference here. I think you're splitting hairs over an issue that simply doesn't exist. Doceirias 22:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Expansion needs
Similar to Shogakukan Manga Award. We need:
- Source. Can anyone confirm whether the official site lists all these?
- Expand the lead, with an emphasis on bringing out the prestiege of this award. Citations for this would be Most Useful.
- Expand on the history of the award, including the previous incarnations mentioned here. Possibly even listing the winners. Or maybe that for another article, wikilinked. Whatever works best.
That'll do for a Start. —Quasirandom 00:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- The official site only lists a few years. [1] The site linked at the bottom of the page lists the rest, but is a year or two out of date. Doceirias 01:22, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Right -- I'll cite them both, then. Thankee. —Quasirandom 04:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Citing the awards
As a result of this AfD, I'm starting a pass to reference all the awards in the recipiant articles -- which I should have done when I added mentions in the articles. Along the way, I plan to create stubs of all the mangakas without articles, as best I can. I leave stubs for works to others, as I've less information in English for most of those. —Quasirandom (talk) 19:32, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've finished this, and along the way I've bluelinked at least one of either author or title of every winner, except where I couldn't find enough information in English to make a decent stub. —Quasirandom (talk) 15:26, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

- Added; someone else can get the pages for the winners, as I forget how those were being maintained. Doceirias (talk) 05:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
