Reese Towpower Trailer light converter for a 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Trailer light converter is the name of an electrical component used for the wiring of a trailer onto the towing vehicle. It is usually necessary because of differences in the wiring of the two vehicles, such as a difference in voltage or the number of wires.

Wiring

Towpower, is a trailer light converter that is manufactured by Reese.[1] The coloured wiring which enters the device follows the following scheme:[2]

Electrical Wiring
  • Green - Right turn
  • Red - Brake
  • Yellow - Left turn
  • Brown - Tail light
  • White - Ground (Vehicle Structure)

Trailer wiring generally follows the aforementioned color scheme. The other end there uses a 4-Way flat wire connection.[2]
