Reese Towpower Trailer light converter for a 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Trailer light converter is the name of an electrical component used for the wiring of a trailer onto the towing vehicle. It is usually necessary because of differences in the wiring of the two vehicles, such as a difference in voltage or the number of wires.

Wiring

A Trailer light converter (TLC) follows an electrical wiring colour scheme.[1][2]

Electrical Wiring Colour Scheme
  • Green - Right turn
  • Red - Brake
  • Yellow - Left turn
  • Brown - Tail light
  • White - Ground (Vehicle Structure)

For example, Towpower, is a patented TLC that is manufactured by Reese.[2] Its U.S. patent D411829 and product packaging describes the aforementioned colour patern. Furhtermore, the other end of this TLC uses a 4-Way flat wire connection.[1]
