David López-Zubero Purcell (born February 11, 1959) is a former swimmer from Spain, who participated in three Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1976. Four years later, when Moscow hosted the Games, he won the bronze medal in the 100 metres Butterfly. He also swam in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, CA.

He's the older brother of the 1992 Olympic champion in the 200m Backstroke, Martin López-Zubero. David Zubero served as an assistant coach under Ralph Crocker and Gary Butts for The Pine Crest School, Ft. Lauderadale, FL in the 1990's and as swim coach at Saint Marks Episcopal School in Fort Lauderdale in the 2000's. David is a science teacher at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL.

While swimming for the University of Florida, he competed in the championship finals of the 200 yard I.M. all four years. He swam on 800 yard free relay that set an American Record and tied NCAA record, while winning the national title in that event in 1979. He also swam on another national championship 800 yard free relay in 1981. David was one of the most versatile swimmers for the Gators during he tenure.

David Zubero and his wife, Sally, have two children, and reside in Jacksonville, FL., USA.

Education

Zubero attended the University of Florida. Also Jacksonville University. He attended the Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL. for high school. In high school he was the National Record holder in two events (200 IM & 400 Free Relay) and was an All-American in all eight individual swimming events.
