TRS was part of the UPA coalition government led by Congress until it had withdrawn its support sighting the reason that UPA was not in a mood to give nod for separate Telangana state.

He represents the Karimnagar constituency of Andhra Pradesh and is a member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He was the cabinet minister for Labour and Employment.
