Ocean Parkway is a station on the New York City Subway's BMT Brighton Line.
It is located over Brighton Beach Avenue running east from Ocean Parkway in the community of Brighton Beach on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York City. It crosses Ocean Parkway on a decorated masonry viaduct in keeping with that highway's status as a city parkway. The current station opened for passenger service on Sunday, April 22, 1917, before much of the station construction was completed, by the operation of a single-track shuttle to Brighton Beach.
Track arrangement
Ocean Parkway is a four track station with two platforms configured as an express station, but has not been used as one since the early 1950s. The two outer (local) tracks carry the Q service while the center (former express) tracks are used for storage and non-revenue movements of train equipment.
Trackage to the next station
Immediately west of the station, the local tracks merge into the express tracks in order to enter the upper level of the double-decked West Eighth Street station. Until 1954 the local tracks continued west on a still-extant but now trackless structure to access the lower level tracks of that station.
