Zoheb Hassan

Zohaib Hassan, younger brother of iconic Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan was born in Karachi on November 18, 1966.

Career

Early career

He and his sister Nazia, spent their childhood in Karachi as well as London. In late 70s, both siblings attended and sang at "Sang Sang Chalien" & "Kaliyon Ke Mala", famous musical show mainly for children hosted by the music maestro Suhail Rana. In start Zoheb Hassan was not so interested in doing Music. He was never interested in going for TV recordings According to him when Nazia was going for recording he used to hide behind the sofas. But his mother was willing for him to go with Nazia in the programme. Later he asked Alamgir to give him some guitar lessons.In mid 70's Nazia and Zoheb's family shifted to London and both continued music as hobby.

It was a very normal day of Late 70's. Zoheb's father invited Feroz Khan on a dinner. feroz Khan looked at the guitar which was place in the dinning room. He asked about it and insisted Zoheb to play it. Nazia sung and Zohb played the guitar. Biddu and Feroz both were highly impressed with the talent of duo and selected Nazia Hassan as a playback singer for Qurbani. Zoheb Hassan was only 14 years old at that time and his voice was not as mature as required in the movie. So Zoheb helped a lot in making the tune of Aap Jaisa Koi.

Later Zoheb debuted in 1980 with album "Disco Deewane", a ground breaking album that was an instant hit both in Pakistan, as well as in India. This particular album is credited as pioneering the pop culture in sub-continent. Indian pop singers like Lucky Ali, Alisha Chinoy and Baba Sehgal, and Pakistani pop singers like Vital Signs, all are said to be inspired by the early work of Nazia and Zohaib.

In 1982, Nazia and Zohaib released their second album "Star/Boom Boom", once again achieving great success, Star was a bollywood movie and zoheb sung majors hit like Ooee Ooee, Dheree Dheree and Zindagi. Star was followed by hit albums like "Young Tarang" (1984), and "Hot Line" (1987). In all those albums, he was joined by Nazia Hassan, and so the success is credited to both brother and sister, though Nazia has always been regarded as the more influential and talented of the two. Zohaib sang duet songs with his sister Nazia, famous songs include "Dosti", "Tere Qadmon ko", and "Dum Dum DeDe". He also scored hit solo songs, including "Zara Chehra to", "Paisa" and "Pyaar ka jaadu".

In 1989, Nazia and Zohaib hosted the famous "Music 89" show, a controversial but hugely popular music show on which nearly all the major pop stars of Pakistani music scene first came to light, including Strings, Vital Signs, and the Jupiters.

In 1992 Zoheb Hassan released last Album with his sister Nazia Hassan Camera Camera, it was huge hit in Indonesia and Pakistan. The song Nasha Na Karo hit the charts in Indonesia. Zohen Hassan gave block busters like Wala Wai and Keon.

In 1995, Nazia went on to marry. Nazia Hassan died of Lung Cancer on Aungust 13, 2000. Zohaib took some time off from music, only to make a come back as a solo artist with the album "Kismet" in 2006. Notable songs include "Kismet", "Fashion" and "Jeena".

Zoheb Hassan also sung for SAF Games in 2001, peformed in PTV Awards (2002), Sung as a guest singer in Najam Sheraz's Unn Se Nain, Khubsorat Banao a song written by Nazia Hassan and in Walls Jingle (2001).

Personal Life

Zohaib Hassan did his graduation from Richmond College London and joined his father's business B & H International. He also contributes in making Karachi a peaceful city and organised Sindh Festival, Entertainment shows and Face of the Year. He also conduct Tribute to Nazia Concert in Karachi and Lahore. Now a days he is also an advisor of Governor of Sindh. Zohaib is married to Gina in September 1998, and is a father of two daughters (Alina and Aliyana).

Zoheb's ancestors

Zoheb’s father Mr. Basir Hassan is a known businessman and her mother Mrs. Muneeza Basir was an active social worker in her youth. Zoheb’s grandfather and Basir Hassan’s father, Nawab Syed Saghiruddin Hassan were the President & Vice President of Muslim League, Delhi and owners of the 1st Ginning Mill in Multan, Pakistan. Some of their friends included Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan and Justice Wajihuddin.

Zoheb’s great grandfather, Khan Bahadur Syed Basiruddin Hassan was very active in social work. He was the founder of Anjuman-e-Himayat-e-Islam, Governor of Lady Dufferin Hospital, and Trustee of Fateh Puri Mosque and built seven primary schools in Delhi.
