Barkha Dutt is the group editor of English news at New Delhi Television[1].
Early life
Barkha Dutt was born to S.P. Dutt and Prabha Dutt (nee Behl).[2] Her father was an official in Air-India[3] and her mother who died in 1984, when Barkha was thirteen,[2] was Chief of Bureau of the Hindustan Times.[3] Her childhood days were spent shuttling between New Delhi and New York.[3]
Education
Dutt graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi studying English literature; received a master's in Mass Communications from Jamia Millia Islamia; and a master's in journalism from Columbia University, New York.[3]
Career
Dutt's reporting of the Kargil conflict in 1999, including an interview with Captain Vikram Batra, brought her to prominence in India. She has since covered conflicts in Kashmir, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.[4]
Currently, she is the Managing Editor of NDTV 24x7 and the host of We the People, a discussion show covering current events. [4]
Controversies
During November 2008 Mumbai attacks, Barkha was accused of being insensitive to the victim's families.[5] Dutt is also said[who?] to have behaved inappropriately[clarification needed] at the state funeral of slain ATS Chief Hemant Karkare.[6]
