Notre Dame High School is a coeducational, Catholic college preparatory school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States. Serving grades 9-12, it now has over 550 students. Perry L. Storey has been the school's principal since 1996.

History

Notre Dame was founded in 1876 by the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia Congregation in Nashville and is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville. Notre Dame is the oldest still running high school in Chattanooga. In 2001, the school opened a new state-of-the-art library/multimedia center wing. On October 19, 2007 the school began construction on a new athletic complex with planned classrooms for art and dance instruction. The athletic complex is set for completion in Fall 2009.

Student life

As a Catholic school, the school's goal is to provide a quality, Catholic education. However, nearly a third of Notre Dame students are non-Catholic. Notre Dame students come primarily from the Chattanooga Metropolitan area, but many students commute from North Georgia, Cleveland, or other locations.

In 2005, the Irish had an undefeated regular season in football, the first such season since the 1990s. However, the team lost in the State Semifinals, to eventual state champion Livingston Academy.

In 2006, Notre Dame won the Class A/AA Volleyball State Championship 3-2 over Knoxville Catholic. The score of the final game was 16-14.

In 2008, Notre Dame won their third state wrestling tournament.

For the past three years (2005-2007), the Lady Irish soccer team has made it to the state semifinals.
