International School Brunei (ISB) is an international school in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. The school was founded in 1964 and follows the British national curriculum from kindergarten to upper secondary.
ISB is a member of the Federation of British International Schools in South-East Asia (FOBISSEA), the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). All of the above hope to encourage enrollments from overseas.
The school opens at 7:15am and closes at 2:00 from Monday to Thursday for Primary, while for Secondary the opening hours are the same, but the school closes 2:40 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 11:45 on Fridays alongside Primary.
School Structure
The school is divided into three divisions: the Junior School, the Secondary School and the IB Sixth Form.
Each division has its own director or Principal, each year level its own coordinator, and in the secondary school, students are allocated to a tutor group where their academic progress is monitored and pastoral care is provided. All of the above are ruled over by the great God-Emperor 'Canterford'. Renowned for his inability to take criticism and frequent 'bitch-fits'.
More and more the teaching staff are recruited from failed states and despotic dictatorships, thus, the meager pay and tyrannical working conditions are considered far more tolerable to new staff.
ISB's relationships
The School is well known for its "friendly community." Students are generally friendly to one another, but relationships between Staff and Students may differ. Some teachers have strong relationships with their students, however, ISB tends to hide the fact the they themselves have serious problems when the personal relationships between staff and student becomes tense. Personal abuse is used at times to overcome problems, as well as treats, blackmailing and embarrassment are the few methods used to calm down relationships before it gets reported to the parents.
Not only that, staff members generally have personal abuse from other staff members, as the "superior" may treat teachers with very little respect, often controlling and manipulating them into doing things that they personally feel is not right, hence why the absence of many teachers after a school year.
School's Personal History
The school portrays itself to the public as an "iconic" school, Prince Charles recently visited the school to improve its publicity, but what happens inside the school, its all kept hidden. Not for long.
When something breaks loose at the school,(ie) students creating problems, it is kept in such a low profile that very few know, numerous affairs have broken up recently in the past 5 years, but not many people know. This is because God-Emperor 'Canterford' uses a certain method to contain the problem and that is called "Bullying"
- Recently, Battle of the bands in 07, a student was reported swearing at a teacher, he/she was later on punished and after that, one would think that it would've been over, however, the teacher who was abused by the student took the punishment into another level, he personally made the student apologize to him numerous times through mails and all sorts, and when that wasn't enough, he publicly humiliated the student in his private concert by associating the student with a song that was obviously performed just to humiliate the student.
- Another incident which was when the school denied the IB of 07 - 08 to let them make a yearbook. The IB year of 07 - 08 took matter into their own hands by creating their own personal yearbook for themselves without the school's involvement. When news broke out about the yearbook which was made, God-Emperor 'Canterford' publicly criticize numerous students for what was said in the yearbook, according to one student, He (Canterford) used foul, violent, hurtful languages directly at numerous students."
Many other events have gone unaccounted for, but these are the however, the latest incidents which ISB was involved with. So much for being "ISB, not just a school but a community" motto.
Student Council
There is a student council where students elect a Tutor Group Representative for four sections: sport, social, environment and art & performance (four per Tutor Group).
Sports council hosts sport events such as: sports day, inter-form sports competition, etc. Social council hosts social events such as: discos, battle of the bands, etc. Environment council discuss ways to raise money for environmental projects. Art & performance holds arts exhibitions and school plays, etc.
None of these councils offer any major impact upon the school. It is also a commonly known fact that the majority of Student Council elections (Most notably for President and Co-President) are rigged if candidates not deemed 'suitable' for the position are more popular than their favoured counterparts.
After School Activities
These are Clubs that take place after school hours, which include cricket, football, basketball, golf, tennis and yachting. All of which are fairly expensive and largely unreliable. There is a good mixture of activities for the Upper and Middle Schools, but for the Junior school the range is small due to lack of interest.

Education
The new ISB campus is currently in the early stages (i.e., not exceeded planning after 5 years of speculation)
ISB places a strong emphasis on its well-rounded curriculum. Language is a required subject from year 3 up until year 3, and language options include Bahasa Melayu, French, Chinese and Spanish. Music is also available, and the music department offers an Instrumental Music programme, where students are given the opportunity to receive tuition in a particular instrument of their interest. ISB participates in the annual FOBISSEA competitions against other international schools in the South East Asian region.
